Edith--I think my James is too old to be your grammas Dad. The earliest West ancestor that I can trace for sure is James West b 1808 NC, m Elizabeth __ NC. Don't know where in NC they came from but they came to Missouri about the same time as a large family of HOUX and POOLS, who came from Grayson Co. Va in the Elk Creek area which is on the NC-Va line. James son, Henry Clay b 1842 in Lafayette Co. Mo. married Julia A Pool, and the Pools and Wests lived as neighbors for many years, so I feel they probably knew each other before. Henry Clay and Julia had a son James Ephraim b 1870 who is my grandfather. He was born and died in Lafayette Co. Mo. I have quite a bit of info about the Pool family, but the Wests have me baffled. Thanks for your input--never know when the link will come! I am a WEST descendant through my grandmother, Pirley Andrew WEST-MANNING. Her parents were James & Amanda Jane (RAGSDALE) WEST. Gramma was born 22 Sep 1875 in Water Valley, Yalobusha Co., MS and resided in Byhalia, Marshall Co., MS until she married Mr. Manning in 1898 and three of their children, sons, plus twin girls there and they moved to Memphis, Shelby Co., TN in 1903 and had three more sons and then traveled across the country to somewhere in ID or WA and then my mother was born 21 Dec 1917 in Yakima, Yakima Co., WA. I had an Uncle James WEST that was living in the Memphis area at the time of an Aunt died in MS in 1956. The Aunt that died was my Great Aunt Ada (WEST) PREHER. > >Where are your WEST families from? > >Edith > > > >-- >On Sat, 6 Feb 1999 21:12:53 Virginia Metheny wrote: >>Myra-I like the idea--I haven't connected yet, and this is my hardest line, >>so welcome any possible leads, and would like to see everyones input. >>Virginia West Metheny >> >> >> >>==== WEST Mailing List ==== >>Your donation to Rootsweb makes WEST-L possible. >> >> > > >"Free web-based email available now at http://www.theglobe.com" >
