If you try and locate the CPT Samuel West, sorry, you won't find the name in any book. I am not old enough to have been in the civil war! To the best of my knowledge, I have never been mentioned in any book, either. I am in today's Army (is it still the Union Army?). My great grandfather, W.L. West was, however.
