Source: "Abstracts od some documents of Twiggs County, Ga" - Beginning abt 1809 and ending about 1900.. Says documents in these records have been placed on mircofilm at the GA state archives or at county courthouses Here is what I found: Page 492) Land Grant from David B. Mitchell, Gov. of the State of Georgia to Vincent West of Thomas District, Hancock County, Georgia. Lot No. 95 in the 23rd District. Wilkinson County. 1 May 1811. (A Plat is recorded for this lot - E.D.M.) #2 Also copies the following: source: "History of Twiggs Co., GA" - pg 37 of book - PASSPORTS 1785-1820 PAGE 248. Saturday, 29th Sept. 1810. On application and recommendation, ORDERED. --- that passports be prepared for the following person to travel through the Creek Nation of Indians, to-wit, one for John West with his wife and 4 children from the County of Twiggs: one for William Thomas Le Grand from the city of Phildelphia pg 38 of the book - under same chapter PAGE 307, Wed. 8th Jan. 1812.... travel to Western county, for Robert Jamison and Joseph Burnes, for Martin Wood, Esquire, all from the county of Twiggs, GA. Original Document in File Two, under West, John "Recommendation for Passport-- Sir-- John West and Family is about to move to the Western Country of course he will have need of a passport I have been acquianted with him these ten or fifteen years past he has always supported the character of an honest Industris Good Citizen.
