I just received some new information from a GenForum posting of mine in February of 1998 that I want to run by this group. My wife descends from Richard West. As follows: Family of Richard West Richard Daniel West's (b. 1817) parents were Solomon West and Eleanor (last name unknown). Solomon West's parents were Benjamin West and Jane Trail. Note - these two generations are new to me and I would appreciate any additional information. I know I have seen information on Solomon West many times on this list - I also believe I have seen more than one "Solomon" family. Richard Daniel West, born 11 Nov 1817 in Union County, SC; died 22 Nov 1878 in Itawamba County, MS. He married in 1839 in Union County, SC to Harriet Levinia Burdine. She was born 1819 in Union County, SC; died 31 Oct 1850 in Itawamba County, MS. 1) William E. West b: in South Carolina 2) Sampson H. West b: in South Carolina 3) Martha J. West b: 1844 in South Carolina 4) Susan West b: 1846 in Itawamba County, Mississippi 5) Levi Lee West b: 1848 in Itawamba County, Mississippi +Mary Shumpert b: Monroe County, Mississippi +Annie Cummings Sauders b: in Monroe County, Mississippi 6) Victoria C. West b: 1850 in Itawamba County, Mississippi 7) Willard West b: 1852 in Itawamba County, Mississippi 8) Ann West b: 1855 in Itawamba County, Mississippi 9) Cornelius West b: 1858 in Itawamba County, Mississippi New information indicates Levi Lee West (my wife's ggrandfather) married twice. His first wife was Mary Shumpert. She was born about 1850 in Monroe County, MS; died about 1890 in Nettleton, Monroe County, MS. Information suggests that Mary Shumpert was Chickasaw. They married about 1870 in Monroe County, MS. They had six children: 1) Annie Elizabeth West m. Robert Richard Hawkins 2) William Nealus West (no information) 3) Mary Belle West (no information) 4) Lavina Jane West m. John William Lauderdale (my grandparents) 5) Henry Saxton West m. Savilla Lucia Lauderdale 6) Fannie Delle West m. George Crowe John William and Savilla Lucia Lauderdale (above) were siblings, children of Henry Blount Lauderdale and Mary Caroline Childress. Levi Lee West married 2nd Annie Cummings Sauders. They were the parents of four children: 1) William West 2) Mildred Inez West, m. John Lelus Montgomery, Sr. 3) Annie West 4) Arthur Paul West (b.9/26/1898) m. Clarinda Akers. New information also suggests Levi Lee West is buried in the Clay Cemetery, Lee County, MS.
