Myra, hi! Thanks for the reply. While your instructions regarding sending of private messages are clear, to me they, and the necessity for them, seem exceedingly complex. (Recall my level of computer experience?) I know I am overwhelmingly outnumbered and the decision has been made, but I do not like this new system. I would happily click on "send to all" to avoid the complications of the new setup. There exists for me another dilemma created by the new and apparently highly desirable method of participating in the WEST-L: Three researchers wish to have snailmail names and addresses of persons I know to be researching a Benjamin WEST. There is no way I will put those names and addresses on a public forum where the writer's identity can not be ascertained prior to sending. (My son is a computer whiz and helps when I need it.) So while others greatly favor the new method, and we live in a democracy, the "preferred" way is an unpleasant chore to me. Thank you for your time and for the explanation.
