Can you be specific about the location of the West museum? We make trips to that area every once in a while researching other families. My furthest-back West ancestor I can document is Samuel West, b. Bracken County, Ky around 1822. His wife was Nancy Story, also b. KY. No one knows where or when this Samuel died, but Nancy apparently outlived him and died in Adams County, OH sometime after 1880. I don't know why, but I've always thought the Wests in our family were English. Shirley
My WEST line comes from Samuel WEST (m. Jane(t) Burnside), born 1759, place unknown, died 1844 in Huron, NY. His son, Calvin Brookins WEST, was born in Maryland, Otsego, NY in 1816, moved to Defiance, Ohio before 1844 and died at sea on the ship Sierra Nevada after contracting Chlolera in Panama in route to San Francisco -> Oregon with his family in 1855. CB WEST came to OR in the late 1840's and early 1850's and had a 9000 acre land grant near Roseburg, OR. After his death, his family settled there - the original land grant is still intact and, although no longer in the family, there is a museum located there dedicated to the Wests. I have CB Wests pencil written diaries of his travels in the OR territories. His daughter, Anna West (Webster) is my gggrandmother. The Burnsides fought in the revolutionary war - Jane(t)s father was born in Ireland - she was born in NY - one might speculate that if the Irish kept to themselves, Samuel West may have been a good Irish lad - obviously, there is no way to know for sure. mike ----- Original Message ----- From: Sandra To: WEST-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, April 13, 2006 10:36 AM Subject: [WEST-L] ETHNICITY of the WEST NAME I had posted this once before but would like lots of input. I love sending the list out probably for selfish reasons: I'm hoping that I will connect with a cousin or twenty (vbg) and that we can combine our information. I'm going to put up a site soon with pictures, info, etc but it will be awhile. If anyone does list the "list" please put my cousins name, Jeff Young, in the credits. Like I've said before - no one really owns this information, it belongs to our ancestors and anyone searching for them, but it's hard work, and giving credit is one of the nicest ways to salute someone's efforts. I guess no one has found a connection with my line and that's disappointing. I've sent out soooooo many and nary a bite. Related or not, I consider you all my friends, if not DNA related, we are connected through the cosmic soup. So, happy hunting and again, let me know if we connect. Sandra
I don't know of a place unless there is someone on the list that has his/her own website and would volunteer to let it be posted there. That would be great. the easy way to serve a mass request for information is to request a specific subject line and then create an email rule to respond with a specific file emailed back. Everything is then automatic. You download the requests and the replies are sent with no intervention. mike, with no common Wests so far. ----- Original Message ----- From: <DWEST1@aol.com> To: <WEST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 12, 2006 8:41 PM Subject: Re: [WEST-L] Pink FIngers - Blood types - lost West Relatives & DNA > Dear Sandra: > > I would like to have a copy of your West information in Word format.
