    1. Cherokee history
    2. Edith Gomez
    3. The book is entitled "The CHEROKEES Past and Present" by an authentic guide to the Cherokke people by J. Ed Sharpe. The 12th printing - revised - 2005 is the copy I picked up in eastern KY. The ISBN is 0-935741-04-6. Cherokee Publications, Copyright 1970. On page 4 of the book is "Cherokke Origin and History". It states: When the giant glaciers and bitter cold of the last ice age were declining, the forefathers of the Cherokees made their way from Asia to this continent. Over a narrow strip of land now covered by the Bering Strait they wandered into North America as nomadic tribes, following heards of while prehistoric animals and seeking to keep themselves alive. Spreading southward like a gigantic fan of humanity, these wandering tribes continued to come, populating most of North and South America. Differing in appearance, language, and customs, they came eventually to call certain areas of this new continent their home. They were knows for their superior height and robust stature. Claiming for their hunting grounds what is now parts of eight states, the Cherokees became the mightiest Indian Empire of all the Southeastern tribes. Gradually their towns grew up near the mouths of small streams where clear water was plentiful. That is only part, but I remember reading and seeing on the Discover channel that they were Orientals. That would make sense if they came across a strip of land now covered by the Bering Sea. Hope this helps. Edith PalTia@aol.com wrote: I have not heard that the Cherokee say they were originally oriental. Can you point me to this information. This is fascinating. :) But then I have heard through various tv shows and such that the scientists or whoever, believe that all NA's came from the oriental peoples. 2. I have a Vincent West, born 1804 in Clermont Cty, Ohio, brother to my great great grandmother Catherine West, born 1813. Parents were Robert West and Henrietta Fairfax, both from Virginia and died in Clinton Cty, Ohio. My Vincent might be a relative to your Vincent. I will get back to you with more info tomorrow. --- Toni Olson <otoni@earthlink.net> wrote: > Desperately looking for Vincent West b OH April 1851, parents both born > Ohio. married Harriett B Smith, she was born July 1862 Indiana, her > father born Ohio mother born Indiana. 2. Vicki, Hope you had a wonderful Easter day. Thanks for the Email about Elihew and Ellenor Moss West. We haven't been to the Lds in several months due to illness and other things, for genealogy hunting. When we first learned about them we went often and both of us do enjoy the people in the library as they were very helpful. We plan to go back though and check out the information you gave me. That is my GGreat Grand parents and I am thankful you found out who his parents were. George W. (Washington) West was his middle name according to some of our relatives who gave me the wife's name and where I could locate them but they left and later moved to Texas as did my Grandfather but in different counties. I know where my Grandfather is buried but not Elihew and Ellenor, nor their people (parents) either. Do you happen to know or are you part of their family? It would be great if I could meet some of his people. A great grand daughter gave me the first information I had on them and I do believe she has passed away. I cannot find out. I believe he had some people in or near Amarillo Texas but am not sure. Thank you so much for the information you sent me, and I do plan to try to go back further; EW
