West Researchers: This man was born in south Alabama, moved to Mississippi and as you can see was an officer in the Civil War. I have copies of papers that he signed in the course of his duties. In all the Civil War sites I have researched he is not mentioned in any way. Can anyone give me a clue as to where I might find out anything about this gentleman? Jean Harrison

I am looking for information about William W. West (b. 1802,Bucksport, ME - d. 1856 California) who married Elizabeth "Betsy" Lawrence (b.1800, Orland, ME - d. ?). They lived in the Bucksport/Orland area of Maine and had eleven children: Silas V. (1822), John H. (1825), William H. (1827), Samuel C. (1829), Deborah A. (1831), Mary E. (1833), Catherine C. (1835), Sylvester S. (1839), Rhoda E. (1843), Jonah D. (1845), and Olive E. (1846). I am descended from the oldest son, Silas V., who came to Alabama when he was seventeen, married, and lived there for the remainder of his life, except for the Civil War period, when he enlisted in and fought with the Union Navy. Any information about this family or any suggestions for finding information about them will be appreciated. I would love to connect to any West researchers who now live in Maine. To All. As a member of the list, I can say that IRC will not replace the list. IRC is not without it's faults. There are times when the system is crowded, slow, and impossible to tolerate. One experiences what is termed "net-split", this is best described like this...a room full of people trying to talk, then suddenly half appear leave. They have gone nowhere, but to them it appears that the other half left. Neither side looks like they have left, but cannot see the ones that did. All are in the same room, just the network has made two rooms of them. Unlike e-mail IRC allows private chats, file sharing, and moderation. My biggest question is..who is going to be there to moderate the pest which find their way into the room just for the purpose of mischief? I have been a IRC operator for 3 years now...sometimes it is a pain, some times it is relaxing. Fran, my Wests are also Scotch-Irish. Most Scotch-Irish came from the Ulster region of Northern Ireland in the mid 1700s, about 100 years after they left Scotland for Ireland. To Whom It may Concern: My maternal (Mary Catherine West) grandmother's maiden name was WEST. Her father's name was Chester West. She was one of 5 siblings:Julia,Virginia, Helen, John, & Chester. Only Julia is still alive but unfortunately ill. They lived in the north Brockton,MA.area very near the Holbrook line. They had a farm. My grandmother, Mary was born in 1902 and I believe she was the oldeest. Her mother's name was Nellie (?Ellen) Mccarthy from County Cork, Ireland. John J. West (1845-1905) married Sallie Mason in Edge Co NC in Dec 1867. Marriage Cert says that John's father was Henry. No info known about Henry!

I am searching for information on Lola J West,she was born Sept 5, 1876 in Campbell County, Georgia, The family went to Atlanta, Ga about 1900. She married Darwin H Pittman probably in Atlanta before 1915. They were in Garden City,Alabama ( Cullman County ) in 1938. In 1952 they were living in Huntsville,Alabama ( Madison County ), Lola and Darwin Pittman had one child Margaret C. Pittman, born Abt 1915, She married William H Garrison and they had 2 sons, Howard and Clyde Pittman.. The family moved back to Georgia after 1964.
