Thanks for info on Gen. Absolem West and others. The book I copied this information from was not extensive and stated that they only list full general officers (i.e. Lee & Grant) and other officers who were "outstanding". I had two grandfathers in the Civil War. One Union and the other Confederate. Unfortunately they were just privates so were not listed. The library here has an extensive collection of Civil War books. I you would like, I will try to locat Brig. Gen. Absolem Madden West along with William Leech West and Capt. Samuel A. West III. You can contact me e-mail: walter_west@markivauto.com Walter
LOL.....now I know how to get your attention...lol...so many of you were right about the number of requests. I am going to make it smaller and try to send both in the same e-mail. Cross your fingers I can make this work! I will post the following info now that goes with the coat of arms. Do not hesitate to let me know if yours does not come through. (Thinking out loud....shoulda asked for a buck...could make Europe next year!!!! lol) But am pleased to finally be able to make a contribution. Hand-written note inside the front cover of this book: "Motto: Jour de ma vie (Day of my life) just above WEST at bottom; on shield green (my note:hand-drawn pic of the clover shape) built of sword severed from French King's sword in battle by young West in the year of 1066. He was called Hoarthgar (Roger) de West i.e. was from "the West." "Limited non-profit edition Copyright applied for, 1958 by Margaret McNeill Ayres. Printed by See Bode Printing Service Memphis, Tennessee" "This book is dedicated to the memory of ANNE WEST who married Henry Fox in appreciation of the great and numerous hardships which many of gentle birth faced bravely in the early days of our country." Handwritten note: Property of Mrs.. I. W. "Flo" West Ellison (my note: the "I" is just a straight line and could therefore be just a mark or an "L" but best guess is the letter "I" (address) San Antonio, TX (my note: I omitted the address for privacy) This book is out of print and tied up in an estate." I do not know when the handwritten notes were made but evidently they were made by "Flo." There are 2 pages of handwritten notes inside the back cover that were "stuck" together. I am not sure I can get them apart without losing the copy but will try. Some are clearly names and dates. Will try to save what I can. Will send Coat of Arms and Sir Thomas West pic as quickly as I can. Remember, will send small for you to enlarge. If this creates a problem for anyone, please let me know. Regards, Linda DuPuy Mother a West from California via Iowa via Missouri via Virginia!

Hello West Kin, I purchased a book entitled: "The Noble Lineage of the Delaware-West Family of Virginia, through Col. John West, his sons and his daughter, Anne West who married Henry Fox" by Ann Woodard Fox, edited by Margaret McNeill Ayres, 1958. I note that the West lineage has been posted to the list before so will not duplicate. However, I have scanned an "old" picture in the book entitled, "Sir Thomas West, 2nd Lord Delaware (of the New Creation), father of the four West brothers who came to America. Photo through the courtesy of Lord Buckhurst, in whose home at Buckhurst Park, the original hangs. I am a novice at this scanner and computer and genealogy "stuff" but would be willing to email the pic as an attachment to anyone who might want to see it. Email me privately and we will give 'er a try. Linda DuPuy dupuy@alltel.net
