Thank you for your hosting of the list. I would submit that those who are serious about genealogy would not mind going through the steps to join the list and figuring out how to do that. I belong to a few other lists who manage themselves this way and it has been great with no recognizable losses. I defer to your wisdom. Thanks! 2. Hello, Couslins, I have made the decision to make this a closed list; at least for the time being. We have been under a great many span attacks lately. Some of the servers are evenn going down because of it. Closing the list seems to be the best solution for now. Closing the list simply means that no one who is not a subscriber to the list can post a message to the list. I really would like to keep the lists open so that anyone who has information about our ancestors would be able to post that information. Rootsweb has an excellent program in place to intercept spam before it gets to the list, but this latest attack has even that tool in a panic. I would like to know what you think about keeping the list closed after this crisis has passed. This is really your list, and it is important to include the features you like best. Thanks for being patient during this time of crisis. Myra Listowner

    3. This is my first post to this list and as such, I would appreciate any tips, etc. that anyone may have to offer. My subject is Lucius West, born February 24, 1807 somewhere in Vermont and deceased April 28, 1879 in Westminster, California (part of L.A. these days). Lucius was apparently married three times: 1. Catherine Gardner; 2. Mary Van Dyke and Margaret Shirley/Williams. In turn, the second set of subjects are his parents. The only information I have on them is that his father's name was John West and that his mother's maiden name was Wealthan. I assume they have a Vermont connection because of that being listed as Lucius' birth state. Thanks, any information on these persons would be appreciated.

    3. Does anyone have any information on the family of Thomas West, Third Lord de la Warr. This is the son of Thomas, Second Lord and brother to Governor John and Capt. Francis West. Someone told me that he had a son named Henry West. I am looking for a Henry West that was born around 1610. He is the progenitor of the West family in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He was brutally killed by the Indians and so his son, William joined Bacon's Rebellion. William was sentenced but later escaped and pardoned. I am trying to connect these Wests to the West de la Warrs because they are in Virginia this early. I think that if they were here this early and in the same state they are surely to be related. If anyone could help out on this I and my fellow researchers would be very thankful. 1. [WEST-L] THANKS!! from Listowner
    2. Hi, I got back a couple of hours ago from welcoming my newest granddaughter, Emma Rose Collins. She is the most beautiful little baby girl I have seen since her mommy was born 28 years ago this month. She was born Monday, Nov. 2 at 8:05 AM and weighed 7 lbs and 8 ozs. Mommy, daughter and *daddy* are doing fine. Thank you all for your good wishes. Needless to say I am way behind on everything. Left in such a hurry I didn't unsub from some of the list and have nearly 800 emails to look at. So, let me say welcome to all the new subscribers, and please do contact me if you have any questions or problems concerning the lists. Whew, this gramma stuff is getting harder all the time, but, if I had known that grandkids were so much fun, I'd a had them first. (bg). Myra

    3. Has everyone tried searching the IGI available at most LDS Family History Centers? My cousin told me alot was there...I tried looking a couple times and found nothing...but then by spending 2 hours last night I found data from the late 1700's for my ancestor and his siblings! The real trick seemed to be ...use something other than the WEST link...for example, a spouses name, or a middle name for the WEST ....something to set them apart from the ZILLION other Wests that they have records on!! I also had to experiment with spellings...what I was told was JOHN HENSMAN WEST....turned out to show up on church records as JOHN AINSMAN WEST...!! The other tip...focus on just one area, for example I was looking at EVERY William West in England...(never worked-too many) ...but when I focused on where I knew his son was born (Leicestershire) then I limited the searching to only 10-15 names...much easier than 100+ ! **find your FHC and look at the IGI*** -- Meet the family http://www.ns.net/~bbb Bernhard/Barnhart Genealogy http://www.ns.net/~bbb/val.htm West Genealogy http://www.ns.net/~bbb/west.htm All the roots of our family http://www.ns.net/~bbb/roots.htm
