Would any of you happen to have a BENJAMIN WEST in your family tree who was born in England during the time period of about 1820 to 1825 plus or minus a few years? He married Rebeca Harvey either in England or Ireland, but can find no record of their marriage in Ireland. Thank you. Joanne jcoryell@prodigy.net

I have a James Franklin West, born July 11, 1835 in Bethune South Carolina. However, I have his father as Mathew West, born April 4, 1804 in Bethune, Kershaw County, South Carolina. Several generations were preachers (Methodist) including my grandfather John Cotton West. Mathew had 15 children and James Franklin had 14 with five of them who died in infancy. James Franklin's was married to Martha Thorne. I have much more information if any of this "rings a bell."

This is my first attempt and you all seem so far ahead of me with all this data from the 1600's. I am looking for info on William West born in 1832 or 33 in NC. He moved to MO and married Mary Margaret Cunningham who also was born in NC. They lived in Webster County but at one point lived in Arkansas where the two oldest kids were born. Kids were Andrew Jackson, 1858; Sarah E.,1860; Martha, 1861; William E., 1862; Joseph Valentine, 1864; George Washington,1866; John Adams, 1869; Mariah L., 1872 and Millie 1874. I know nothing of any of the kids except Joseph sho married Florence Baker. She later ran off with one of his brothers. Joe went after them and brought her home and someone musrdered the brother. Don't know if it was in AR or MO. Any help appreciated. Melissa Missilou@aol.com
Just a test to check on my taglines. They don't seem to be working. Myra
Does anyone have any information as to the parents of Anthony West who came to the Eastern Shore of Virginia on the ship "James" in 1622? He was married to Anne Huffe (?). Some sources say he was related to the De La Warrs, but most deny this connection. I have extensive information on the De La Warrs back to the 13th century and fairly complete list of descendents of Anthony from 1622 until the present, but am missing any info on Anthony's parents. I was wondering if anyone may have access to the 1850 or 1860 census report for Washington County, Maine. My brick wall is my GGG Grandfather, John William West. in 1840 or 50, he would have been the head of the household, married to Prudence Tenney (daughter of Alexander and Anne (Sinclair) Tenney. He was born in 1828, died in 1905, and one of his sons, Uriah E. West, was born in 1858. This brick wall has been bugging me for a long time, because West is my surname, and it is the only family branch that I have really been stuck with(I have a copy of his death certificate, and it states that his parents are "unnamed" - Not very helpful). I would appreciate any help, or ideas on where and how (and how much $) to request a census search. thanks in advance for any help, chris west

Hi all! Thanksgiving when I was a child (in the days before fresh fruit was available year round) was a time for making ambrosia. We children drooled as the adults combined the ingredients. Fresh coconut was used in the ambrosia. After my marriage, I made ambrosia every Thanksgiving and it continues to be a regular on the menu. Each holiday season, I make sure each one of my grandchildren gets to see how a real coconut is cracked. They are amazed and delighted. So from our family tradition of ambrosia has come a second tradition: "Granny cracks a coconut and we drink the coconut milk." Happy Thanksgiving to all! Fran
Hi All, My family has two traditions which have come down through the years. The first is the very Southern tradition of serving black eyed peas on New Year's Day. The second is leaving the Christmas tree up until after the New Year has been welcomed in, thus making it at least the 2nd of January before it can come down. To violate either of these traditions is said to bring on very bad luck. Happy Holidays to everyone. Ida
Dear Matt: My gggrandfather was named Thomas West. He was born abt. 1819-20 somewhere in Kentucky. He lived in Paris, Monroe Co., Mo. in 1880. He. married Lydia Wilcox who was b. abt. 1826 also somewhere in Kentucky. I do not know the county in Kentucky they came from. They had several children: James, JohnD., Laura, and Cynthia who was my great-grandmother. She was born in Jan. 1844 in Paris, Monroe Co., Mo. She married Robert Glover. I very much would like to find the parents of Thomas West and Lydia Wilcox. I am at a dead end. I do not know if my Thomas West was a decendant of yours . I hope you can shed some light on the line. Thank you, Joan
I am new to this list. I have a William West who married a Mary Coates, possibly in Lincolnshire, or they moved to Lincolnshire later. The marriage was around the 1800-1807 era. Possibly living around Boston or Bough-le-Marsh. William was a Brass Founder by Trade. He eventually moved to London (The Minories). The West family were members of the Free Church (methodists). They had three daughters Mary b. 1807, Jane and Caroline. Jane married a William Kelk in Bough-le-Marsh cir 1830s. Caroline marr. a Richard Doughty of Hundlebury, Lincs. All three daughters and their husbands emigrated to Australia between 1840 and 1860s. There is supposed to be a link to a Thomas West, one of the Baron De La Warrs. Does anyone have any of these names or any Wests in the Lincolnshire Area? Thanks in advance, Matt mcorthor@acenet.com.au
