Beverly: Thanks for your reply. Do you have any idea of how to research these Irish Wests? If my line goes through them, rather than through the Lords de la Warr, how can I find out? Beverly, My WEST line(at least a branch of it) went from Chester Co PA to Richmond,VA, then on to South Carolina (Gresham and Marion) in the mid to late 1800's. I have a hunch that they may have been preceded by others in the family I have not yet identified. Names that I know of for these WESTS are Thomas H.B.West, Jr ; Wm A. West (probably a Jr.) ; Marshall M. West ; Eugene W. West, Jr. Some oral history says Scotts-Irish - other says Quaker - not mutually exclusive. Does this fit with anything in your line? Hi, Cousins, Hope you each had a blessed and happy Thanksgiving. Now that all the turkey has been consigned to wherever old turkeys go, perhaps we can find a minute or two between now and Christmas for a little research along with a little reminiscing. A funny, cute or nostalgic Christmas story would be fun. Again, please put CHRISTMAS STORY in the subject line for those who do not have the time or just choose not to read each one. Well, the verdict is in. Because of the volumn of Spam, all Rootsweb lists are now closed with the exception of a few who chose to manually open their lists to nonsubscribers. I have decided, after hearing from so many of you in favor of keeping the list closed, that our list will remain closed. Perhaps there will be a time in the future when the Spam can be contained and we can once again open the list. Some of you may have a small problem posting to the list if you are subscribed from one address (example - home) and try to post from another address (example - work). If you do post or receive posts from more than one address, please feel free to subscribe from each address. The posts will be permitted only from the original addres from which you subscribed unless you subscribe from the other addresse(s). Thanks for you participation in our great list. Myra Listowner
Hello! I am looking for a Jonathon West b. abt 1740 in MD who moved to Rowan Co. NC, possibly with brothers Samuel, William, Ephraim, Alexander, John, and Jenkins. Jonathon's son Thomas b. 1777 in Rowan Co. married Mary Renshaw, moved to Jackson Co. AL then on to Washington Co. AR. I would love to hear from anyone who might be researching these families. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Donna brandon@mmind.net
I'm new to the list, so I missed the story of the Lords de la Warr. Would someone like to tell me sometime? I only know of one West: my ggrandmother, Josaphine West who married William Green. I can find out nothing else about her, so I can't connect with any other West. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. Lynda

Henry West was the father of John J. West (1844-1905). Does anyone have knowledge of this group of Wests! Edgecombe and Nash Counties!
Paul, my West family came from South Carolina. My family tradition never mentioned any royalty, but did say the family was Scotch-Irish, ethnic lowlander Scots from what is now Northern Ireland. JAMES was born March 27, 1696, in Rehoboth, MA, a son of JAMES and GRIZZELL (SQUIRE) WHEELER. He married ELIZABETH March 8, 1716. If anyone on the list has any additional information on the parents and siblings of ELIZABETH that they are willing to share, it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Rick in Thailand
I am still searching for the family of Thomas (Tom) Conley West & Sarah Susan Webb West. They were married in Thurber, Erath Co., TX in 1882 and had the following children, all probably born in the Thurber area: Thomas W. West, b. Mar 1884 (?), b. abt. 1886 Lillie A. West, b. Oct 1888, m. 1919 Eastland Co., TX to Robert Walker Mirtle West, b. Jan 1890 Edward West, b. Thank you. Nancy Ann Webb McLaughlin
I just learned the other day that not all the Wests in North Carolina and Virginia are descendants of the Lords de la Warr. Some of them were evidently poor emigrants from Ireland. Does anyone know more about this? I've been searching for the parents of Joshua West, b. 1725 in Camden, Currituck Co., North Carolina. He married Sarah (Sally) Cowell, b. 1758 of Ladeau Ridge, Currituck Co., North Carolina. From all I've been told by my grandparents, etc., we were supposedly descended from the famous Wests of Virginia, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. Can anyone help me make a connection to his (and Sarah's) parents? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul West
