I was grave hoping today and found the following on West, at a Cemetary East of Fayetteville, N.C.(Cumberland County) that might help some one. Site 1- Alphonso West, Sr. b 1906, died 1965 Alphonso West, Jr.. b.1933, died 1960--no one else was mentioned although it was a 8 grave site with a Nice Head Stone. Site 2- Murdock Butler West, b.1869 died 1945 Wife-Florence Jane Carter West, b.1881, died 1960 Children (I assume) were Sally West Allen b.1908, died 1989----Oscar Moody West, b.1915, died 1946, and Myrl West Evans b. 1900, died 1993. ( Sure hope I last that long.) would have really have loved to have talked to Myrl. Site 3-Herbert G. West. b april 6, 1886, died july 6 , 1953 Wife was Novella Carter West b. sept1, 1888, died jun 29, 1969 They had 4 still born children which are named and shown. Since this is the one I m really researching I also know they had other children all dead, not buried here. They were Robert, Vance, Cleave, Alton and Margrete. I am researching Stella Sarilda West born 1/9/1884 in Missouri. I have a hint that her mother's maiden name was Adams. I have a recorded interview with her and she states that they lived in a shed in her Grandma Adams yard in Missouri. They then moved to Arkansas by covered wagon around 1892 (she was about 8). She married Cornelius Hester Bentley on November 1901 in Van Buren County, Arkansas. The Census Record that I have for the Bentleys states that both of her parents were born in Missouri. Susannah West was born about 1800 in N.C. on Aug. 19,1821 She married Robert Gravatt, Roane Co. Tn. in 1830 they moved to Gallatin Co. Il, and then before 1850 moved to Crawford Co. Mo. Benjamin Lynch West grew up in Montgomery County Alabama. He was licensed to preach by the Methodist Church in 1833 and was serving the Tallapoosa County Alabama area in 1838 and was ordained as a Deacon in 1841. While the Rev. Benjamin Lynch West was a traveling minister, he met and married Rebecca R. Jones in Talladega County, Alabama. By 1842 he was a minister in the Glennville, Alabama Area. In 1844 he migrated to Caddo Parish, Louisiana to became the minister of a Methodist Church. In 1846 he moved his family to Harrison County, Texas and then moved to Tyler, Smith County, Texas in 1848. He was ordained as an elder by Bishop Andrew at Marshall, Texas in 1853. He moved to Denton County, Texas in where he died on 11 Dec 1859 and was buried at the Mount Zion Cemetery near Little Elm, Collin County, Texas. By all accounts, the Rev. Benjamin Lynch West was a strong "fire and brimstone" preacher and a bold defender of Methodism. He purchased Second Class Headright Certificate # 308, for 640 acres, dated 10 Dec 1839, from the estate of Richard R. Jones, deceased, for $721.50.
