    2. Okay, Cousins, I am removing the "Reply To" feature from the list. I really thought it would work better for us, but guess I missed this one. Now all replies will go only to the one who sent the post. If you have something that you think the list would be interested in, please utilize the "Reply to All" button. I apologize to the ones who were offended, and to those who liked the feature. But I guess the old adage that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies here. This has been the best list I have ever subscribed to. West cousins are still the greatest. Myra Listowner

    3. I am in complete agreement with your "second thought" assessment -- and it was my first thought as well. This is going to become quite unwieldy quickly ... and it makes me work to get around the natural selections my software already provided me. 3. Having seen this new style implemented, let me register my opposition to it. Since most programs make it quite easy for a user to reply to all or just one, it makes sense to leave it to individuals who are posting whether or not their post/reply is fit for general consumption. The sheer volume of West-L emails I'm getting right now is detracting from the value the list has for me. If others, who initially registered their support for this idea, have had second thoughts, it would be nice if they were voiced. Thanks for the consideration, Bob

    3. Myra, I also was irritated by all the "newbie" questions and comments that were unrelated, but I just deleted them and kept reading. I have just recently subscribed and have been overwhelmed by the number of postings I have to go through every night after I come home from work. I also am a member of the Cherokee listing, so to go through 70-80 e-mails takes a while. I agree with you, that it was getting out of hand. Guess there are some thin skinned individuals out there. 3. Oh,thank you for the support. I'm somewhat taken aback at that response to my question. When I get time I intend to go back and read the purpose of the WEST-L---I'm sure it indicated that the list is for "Newbies" to genealogy and using computers in genealogy. I'm both. Also, I am sure I read somewhere that "no question is too simple" to ask on this list. I do appreciate that you wrote to me. I'll try your suggestions. 3. Forgot to add: The Viney WEST enumerated 1840 Lowndes Co., GA is a mystery still. For years I have sought information on Viney, to no avail. Should anyone know anything about Viney or have any clues to pursue other than the usual census, marriage, land, probate, Court, county history, military, and newspaper, please contact me. Thank you. 1. [WEST-L] John, Susan, Sarah, Jane, Thomas, William H. WEST .Buck.Co.Va
    2. Before anyone signs off this list I will make a desperate attempt to find an ancestor. In Buckingham County, Virginia. I have JOHN WEST married to a SUSAN. (possibly maiden name Robinson not sure). JOHN was born between 1765-1778 and died in 1823 or 1824 in Buckingham Co.Va. his wife Susannah was born about the same time. any further info on her is UKNOWN. They had 2 sons I have positively identified THOMAS (Claiborne possible middle name) WEST b. 1802 married MARY HENSON. I have their descendants. My Ancestor. WILLIAM HENRY WEST b. Dec. 7 1804 d. Nov 7 1883 married Dec 22, 1825 to ELIZABETH HIX (HICKS) I Have two daughters from implied deeds of Buckingham Co., VA. JANE WEST b.abt. 1796 d. ??? married A.H. MOON SARAH WEST b abt. 1798 & d.?? married JOHN R. MIDDLETON Does anyone have ANYTHING ON THIS FAMILY.????? Please???? My Brick Wall for about 21 years. Just recently got a few tidbit but nothing really. Also from these implied deeds it appears that JOHN WEST'S father may have been WILLIAM WEST AND MARY ?.... THOMAS AND WILLIAM HENRY WEST CAME ABOUT 1838 TO PUTNAM CO., (W.) VA. died here.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone possibly have a record of a tombstone from the area of Arthurs Creek , Buckingham Co., VA on these WEST's Thanks in Advance it would be greatly appreciated. Marlene West Perry

    1. [WEST-L] my two cents
    2. when i first saw the change in the list that all responses would be sent, i thought that was a good idea, but now i'm having my doubts. i've already checked my email twice today and deleted a bunch of "fluff", but to give you an example, just now i checked it and i had 24 West-L messages and 13 of them were non-genealogy related (like i'm doing right now myself) and 12 that were. i can certainly appreciate those needing help, cuz i need it sometimes myself, and i can also appreciate needing to say 'thank you' to someone for information, and there is no need to be rude and crude about it, but at the same time i myself along with everyone else subscribed to this list for WEST FAMILY GENEALOGY INFORMATION, and that's it. with this being such a popular list there are already plenty of postings to sort through daily, and the situation does need to be controlled. by not reading the 'RE:'s" and just deleting them, could mean that you would miss on information, and won't solve the problem. my suggestion is for us all to offer common courtesy to each other (after all we're all cousins), keep the postings to strictly what the list was meant for, and if you want to thank some one or ask a 'newbie' question, send the email directly to the individual it's meant for. any responses to this posting should be sent directly to me and not posted on the West-L. have a nice day and God Bless Terri
