    3. Sandy, you had very generously already sent the Jefferson Co. marriage records copy to me. And after all these years of looking for Viney, one would think I would have been alert to the V/W similarities in writing, when first I saw the given name Winey. Again, my thanks for your time and your great amount of input and help. 1. [WEST-L] LEGEND
    2. My grandmother, Nina Alice West b. 1872 Pike Co. OH d. 1953 Lucas Co. OH, d/o Joseph Sperry West 1841-1911 & Elizabeth Jane Watts 1841-1922 told me that according to legend the WESTS are related to Mary BALL, George Washington's mother, who lived in Fredricksburg, MD. She did not have any wealth. George got his plantation from his brother, who was in the British Navy & named the farm in honor of his admiral - Admiral Vernon. The rest of George Washington's wealth came from Martha Dandridge CUSTIS, a wealthy widow who he married 1759. The Robert E. LEE Family Group are descendants of Martha Dandridge Custis's children by CUSTIS. George Washington fathered NO children - just his Country! Is there any truth to this legend? Jack R. Saylor

    2. I hope the list will forgive me for using the list to say this, but when someone made the remark, "if the Wests were the greatest people, they would share their information with everyone", I have to say something. Due to health problems, I can't make an offer to look up information for everyone because I don't want to offer help that I may not be able to follow through with. But you might want to know that every letter that comes through the list, if I am physically well enough to do it, I check my books, etc to see if I have anything that connects. And it I have anything I send it to the person requesting it. I feel that the person requesting it probably knows if anyone else is searching for the same name and they are free to pass it on to others without making a lot of extra mail for those that have no use for it. So I join with Myra in saying there are an awful lot of nice Wests out here that do help others and a lot of them have helped me. That's why I want to return the favor and help as many as I can. I may have to unsub to the list from time to time because I can't keep up with the amount of e-mail. But when I'm on the list and able, I love helping others if I can. Eileen

Also on p. 150 there is a marriage for Mathew K. WEST and Celia KNIGHT on Jan. 28, 1824. Hope this will help you or maybe someone else. Sandy
