Alright, I finally found the time to go through the old interview that I had of my G-Grandmother Stella Sarilda West. She was born in Clinton, Henry county, Missouri on November 18, 1884. She grew up around Clinton and Salem, Missouri until she was 9 years old when they moved to Harrisburg (berg), Arkansas. In Missouri her family lived in a smokehouse in her Grandma Adams yard. Grandma Adams was redheaded and Dutch. She also said something about a George Garvey's Store in or near Harrisburg (Harrisberg). She also mentioned a Bakersfield (a town) that used to be named something else but I couldn't understand the old town name. She also mentioned traveling through Seely and Watanooga (spelling?). I am assuming that these are in Arkansas. I can't seem to find a good internet site to answer these questions; and my Atlas don't have these towns on them (or I'm not looking in the right area). Now, for some questions. Where is Salem in regards to Clinton, MO? Are they in the same county? Is there more than one 'Clinton, MO'? Where is Harrisburg (berg), Arkansas? In What county? has anyone heard of Bakersfield in this area? Or a Mr. Garvey's store? Where is Seely and Watanooga? And most important, Can we have family a family connection? I would appreciate any answers. Nancy Dotson Riley

I have been looking in the social security index again and I find a Ben West Born: May 17,1884 Died: Dec. 1966. Does anybody on the list have this Ben WEST?
One of my (many) elusive West relatives I'd like to locate is Hugh West. He was born about 1874 in Mississippi and later became a judge in Texas, according to the notes my great-aunt left. Hugh was the son of Rufus Calhoun West and Emma Ware. Rufus was the son of Zachariah Simpson "Simp" West and his first wife, Hannah Katherine Simmons, both of Laurens County SC. I believe Hugh's wife was named Prince, which seems an odd given name for a woman to have, but that's what my great-aunt's notes say. If you have any information on Hugh West, his judicial career, or his descendents, I'd really like to hear from you. Thanks. Walter, You want to know something even funnier? My G-grandmother, Stella Sarilda West, told her children that her family use to feed the James boys (Jesse and Frank) when they use to come through their area. She was born in Missouri, but moved to Arkansas when she was about 8. I unfortunately do not know the county or city where she was born. She was born in 1884. I just thought I would mention this since you mentioned the James boys. Nancy D. Denise Your enquiry about your Grandfather intriqued me since I have family line in KC although I don't recognize any in your list. My Great Grandfather Silas Mercer West had a brother Howard who married Jesse James aunt (Elizabeth James) and was a prominent citizen in KC in the 1800's. In browsing thru a KC visitors guide a few years ago I came across a brief article about a West Family cemetery in Raytown. Do you know anything about this? I tried looking it up once but could not locate it. Walter West Springfield, MO P.S. Isn't Winston in Daviess Co.?
