I'm looking for information about Lawson H. West, b. abt 1825 in Hebron, NY, s/o Egbert and Zilphea (Foster) West. He supposedly had seven wives. Three are known as of this time, Elizabeth Gleason (m. 1848), Julia Melissa Woodard (m. abt 1861), and Eliza Shipley (m. 1876). Would like to find indentity of other wives, descendants and his date of death. He lived in Washington County, NY as well as Bennington County, Vermont. Any help would be appreciated. I think I made a mistake in understanding what my G-Grandmother meant by Seely or Watnooga. Mr. Woodard let me know that we corresponded before and that the towns that I was most likely looking for are in Dewey County, OK. Thanks again Gary!! The towns are most likely Waynoka and Seiling, and with the (sorry to say it!!) Okie accent, I spelled them the way I heard them. (o= I hope that no one takes offense to my comment. Because my family is full of Okie accents and true Okies. (o= And there is pure joy in listening. Library of Virginia Archives Research Services In response to the increasing volume of genealogical requests received annually, the Library of Virginia now requires completion of the Genealogical Research Request Form with each request for information. The research service provided by the Archives staff includes a search for ONE PERSON in ONE RECORD from specific indexed materials. Please be aware that a search may not locate the information that you seek. If extended, in-depth research is required, a list of professional researchers familiar with our holdings will be furnished. PLEASE NOTE: The Archives staff does not conduct genealogical research. Out-of-state residents must include a $20.00 nonrefundable service fee with each request form. For this fee you will receive one of the following: 1) up to 10 photocopies, or 2) up to 3 photoprints from microfilm with a citation of the source. If copies of the complete document exceed 10 photocopies or 3 photoprints, a statement for additional copying costs will be sent before the order is processed. Virginia residents are exempt from the fee, but will be charged for copies at a discount. An invoice will be mailed to you with the results of your request. PLEASE NOTE: We reserve the right not to copy materials that might be damaged by photocopying. The Following Records Cannot Be Researched by Mail Births, Deaths and Marriages: There was no systematic recording of birth and death records in Virginia until 1853, and such records were not maintained by the state government between 1896 and 1912. Copies of birth and death records (1853-1896, 1912-present) and marriage records (1853-present) must be obtained from the Office of Vital Records and Health Statistics, P.O. Box 1000, Richmond, Virginia 23208 (804) 225-5000. Census Records: We neither search nor photocopy the federal census population schedules. Microfilm copies of the schedules are available from the National Archives, your local library, or through your local library's interlibrary loan department. Confederate Service Records: Copies of official service records for Virginia Confederate military units must be obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration, Washington, D.C. 20408. West Virginia County Records: The Library of Virginia does not hold court records for counties and cities now in West Virginia. We suggest that you write the Division of Culture and History, Archives and History Section, The Cultural Center, 1900 Kanawha Boulevard East, Charleston, West Virginia 25305. Free copies of our pamphlets, Genealogical Research at the Library of Virginia and Professional Researchers, are available on request.
