Hi Listmembers! >From the IGI, 1994 Edition, the following was obtained: John Flemmon WEST married Mary LAWRENCE A son, Gipson Roy WEST was born Smith Co., TN 18 August 1824 As usual, one is cautioned to verify IGI information to be sure this is indeed the family of interest. In view of the information posted yesterday, I feel confident the above information applies to that John F. WEST whose wife was Mary and for whom Gipson R. WEST was estate administrator. Now if we determine DeKalb Co., TN was cut out of Smith, we have another valuable clue in determining origins of John F. WEST and Mary Lawrence. This information was given to me in 1994 by a long-time correspondent and possible WEST cousin whose name and address I did not obtain permission to publish on the 'net. Does anyone have any Wests in England for the time period of approximately 1770 to 1850? And if so, would you know the location where they lived? My great-grandfather (Benjamin West--not the painter) was born somewhere in England, probably around 1820 or so. He married Rebecca Harvey (born in Ireland) and had at least two children in Ireland in 1847and 1849 before coming to the United States also in 1849 (do not know the port of entry). I would like very much to find an area in England where the family may have lived in order to check further. Thank you very much. Joanne

Mine came from NC, I think with the POOL family, who Henry Clay WEST b 1842 Mo, married into. Some accounts say they came from Bladen Co, others say Rowan Co. At any rate I know it was on Muddy Creek, NC and I don't know where the Co lines ran in 1835 when they left for Mo. The POOLs migrated with the families McElROY, ROSE, BEDWELL, & HOUK, who are all related, and I expect James and Elizabeth WEST were with them as they all got there about the same time, and were all neighbors in Lafayette Co. Mo. I expect if I can find these names all in a community in NC about 1830, I will Bingo. Virginia

Hello, Looking for information about the WEST family in Beaver County, PA. My gggreat grandmother was named Urey West. She married Daniel Fisher and had Mary Ann Fisher on Dec. 14,1845. Story goes........ that one of my ggggrandmothers in this line was a full blooded Cherokee Indian. Could this name Urey be a Cherokee name? Another WEST, is my gggreat grandmother Abigail WEST. I have noted the discussions about Due West. When I was looking for West information in St. Clair Co, IL (Belleville), I found a Due West, the daughter of Washington West and Mary Agnes Wolfe. I don't have a birth date, but some of her siblings were born in the 1870's. Other siblings include Basmath, Booth, Mary Agnes, Washington Jr, Maria Katherine, Stephani, Ruth, and Grace Byron. Washington West was born 2-8-1847 in Belleville, IL. His father had moved to IL from Virginia around 1818. Since this is not 'my' line, I did not record the source of the info., but I'm sure that I got it in Belleville. Hope this helps explain the Due West mystery. Looking for information regarding a Greenberry or Granberry West, lived in Texas in the 1940's-60's timeframe. Greenberry may have actually been a surname, but I do know that he was a West in some way. Apparently he traveled to Mississippi every fall to pick cotton with my Grandfather (Comer Benjamin West).
