I agree with you on that, Horrall, because I can't get back to MD from MS. My Great Grandfather, James M. West was b. Aug 1818 either in KY or TN. He married Dec 1866 Amanda Jane Ragsdale, b. Oct 1850 in GA, she was just past the age of 16 and he was 48 but he outlived her. Amanda died Feb 1900 shortly before the 1900 Census for Marshall Co., MS, James died just before the 1920 Census for the same place, found him on the 1910 but not on the 1920 Census. They had only two sons, James West, b. 1885 and Levi Lewis West, b. 1888 [he was listed as being in the WWI], d. 1929 in Holly Springs, MS. James West [1885] was a butcher in Memphis, TN according to the 1930 census, his wife was born in Ireland and her name was Estelle Juanita ???, their daughter was Trunella West [I don't know if I spelled her name right.]. If anyone recognizes any of this information could you please fill me in of what you have on James and Estelle West and family. Ellie...I always perk up at mention of James or Henry West from Ireland. Possibly we come from the same line. My father said his family came from Ireland very early. Census shows that they lived in Irish neighborhoods, and married into Irish families. I can go no further back than James b.1808 NC and came to Lafayette Co Mo about 1835. His son Henry Clay West b.1842, is my great grandfather. James and Henry C are both buried in the Pool/ McElroy family cemetery in Lafayette Co. Mo. My grandfather, James Ephraim West, b. 1870, married Florence McDowell in Odessa Mo in 1898. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 12, 2003 6:58 AM Subject: Re: [WEST-L] WEST LIST > Richard, > > I for one have my ancestry back until Ireland.
Hi Arthur I'll have to admit that most of the traffic in this mailing list appears to be American oriented. As you say however most of the Wests are immigrants from the UK and that is true of my ancestors also. The only information that I have is that my line decends from a Francis West born about 1605, 06 in Salisbury. He married a Margery Reeves, who some say , was born on the Isle of Wight. The possible father has been listed as either Francis, who also maried a Margaret, born About 1589 or a Richard who left a will published in 1623 in Salisbury. This is the extent of my knowege about my UK roots but always eager to expand my data base. Best Wishes Joe West
Richard, I for one have my ancestry back until Ireland. There I am at a dead end. My earliest known ancestor is Henry West born 1723 married to Jane McGeary. They had two sons Henry and James. They arrived in America just before the American Revolution from Ireland. From there forward I have everything. The only reference to where they came from in Ireland is a history book that quotes a son of Henry Jr as saying his father came to America at the age of 2 from County Antrim Ireland. Ellie Hi,All I have been subscribed to this list for a few weeks now and not once have I seen any WEST messages about the U.K. Is this list just completely American. Regards,Arthur
Dennis, Would you happen to have Elihew/Eli/Elihu West married to Ellenor Moss in your data base? Either from Fulton Co. Ill then on to Ky I believe or perhaps Mo. He is a hard one to locate after I found them in Ill census. Most of their children were born in Ill. Since then I cannot locate them. Thanks. EW

Arthur: We get a small number of messages from the British Isles - Scotland, England, and Ireland, - don't recall any from Wales. The great majority of the WESTs in the U.S. probably have their roots in England, we just haven't been able to make the connection across the Atlantic yet. We would welcome more exchange with our British cousins. My focus is on the Whitlatch family. I posted my query to the West list hoping that someone on that list would have info on Flora Whitlatch from having researched her husband Charles. Of course, I'd like to have all of their data including parents and children (and their descendants) plus dates and places. I was particularly interested in confirming her parents. I have in my database a Flora Whitlatch (no spouse given) whose parents were George Matthew Whitlatch and Rebecca Jane Duncan. But I need confirmation that this is the same Flora Whitlatch who married Charles West. Can you make that connection for me? Now, if you need anything on the Whitlatch family, I can send you a text file with loads of data on them. But I have absolutely nothing on the Wests. You see, I was pretty much on a fishing expedition. Barb, Thanks for your effort, but that Alfred isn't mine. There was some type of fatal railroad accident in Wrightsville....he had just moved there with his family, wife Theresa (or Terressa) son Allison (Allisen), Daughter Lizzie, Son Hugh, and another unknown child.....about a year prior to his death. He was a saw mill worker, and was 35 years old.....his family returned to Pennsylvania, where I found his wife remarried about 10 years later. Just trying to find an actual obituary for him.......Arkansas archives said I can get copies of the two small news articles about the accident for $10 so I guess I'll give that a shot....but just can't find an obit or where the guy is buried. Thanks for your help !!!1 Dawn West -----Original Message----- From: Barbara [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2003 10:21 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [WEST-L] Wrightsville Arkansas Dawn: I poked about on the internet a bit, and found that Wrightsville is in Pulaski County.
