    1. [WEST-L] Seeking E.G. WEST and his wife in Cleveland, Ohio
    2. Barbara
    3. Hello everyone: Time for my annual reposting of my elusive WEST...you never know when or where info might come from. I'm trying to find Mr. E.G. West and his wife ______ HOPPER. They were living in Cleveland, Ohio at the time of her mother's 1924 death in Saginaw, Michigan. Unfortunately for me, obits in those days identified women only as Mrs. So-and-so (as if they really only existed because their husbands did...Grrrr). So I can't be sure which one of the Hopper daughters was married to him. An elimination process (who died before Mama, who was already married, etc.) whittled the candidates down to one: Emily Maria Hopper, b. 1871. Any connection with anybody's tree? And does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do from my home in Ottawa in Canada to make a connection in Cleveland? (I already tried the Ohio Historical Society's searchable deaths index - no joy there, but it's a GREAT site.) Hopefully, Barb Hopper Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

    3. Hi All, I keep seeing Morris West in the subject line, but then when I scan down to read about him there is nothing concerning him. I am researching Morris West b. abt. 1751. I have 4 sons for him but would like a complete list of his children, were there any girls, what was his wife name, etc.? This is Morris West, Sr. I am referring to. Thanks, Vi -- Vi Poland email address [email protected]

I am sure you will get an offer. From what I understand, a lot of people sell pages from old books on ebay and other places. It doesn't take away from the fact that it came from a 1860's book. Ask the seller for more information if you can and just offer to sell it. Lisa ==== WEST Mailing List ==== Become a transcriber for the Census Project. www.us-census.org

    3. Hi - thanks for the info! I am still gathereing info - but I must say I have had the best luck with this list serve. Thanks for all the ideas on my "Benjamin West" engraving...the seller did not respond and I decided to just let it go. I'll preserve the document - scan it into the system for my records. Its okay - I just felt somewhat deceived! Jo..I I am trying to verify where they all belong. Joshua Owen & Sarah Butcher were Sarah A Owen-Webb's parents. I am not certain about Joshua's parents - were they William Owen and Delila Rupe? And if so..was William's father Joseph? 2. You may be correct on this and I did not know it. I have laminated so many of the old pictures I have copied of my GGGG Grandfather and many more of them. Most of them are copies from my scanner though and they do look so much more clearer than they would without being laminated. I am so glad you told us that. elw

    1. [WEST-L] Laminating
    2. George L. Holder
    3. It is my understanding, based on limited knowledge, that old paper records that are heirlooms should never be laminated. They can never be unlaminated and the adhesive can turn gummy over years. Any office supply store should sell archival quality plastic sheet protectors. Just make sure the box says "archival." If the documents are torn and will not stay organized in a sheet protector, the use of archival quality dry mount tissue or dry mounting adhesive can be used to permanently attache the document to acid free paper, also easily available at an office supply store. A Google search reveals a lot of information and dealers. Think of dry mount adhesive as wax paper (it really isn't) which you cut the same size or a little smaller than the document you are saving. Put the adhesive sheet between the document and acid free paper and then using a relatively cool iron, iron the document to the paper and keep it in a sheet protector. Libraries with old documents will know about some other products. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Fischers" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 1:08 AM Subject: Re: [WEST-L] BENJAMIN WEST > How safe is laminating?? 1. [WEST-L] Conrad West or Samuel West
    2. Dawn West
    3. Hi List... I'm really hitting dead ends in my quest for information so I was hoping that maybe someone here would have some familiarity with the people I have begun looking at as potential links to my family. On the 1830 Centre County Census, Lamar township Samuel West and Conrad West are listed. As I am unable to locate many other persons in the area, I am thinking that one of them may be the father or grandfather of Hugh St. Clair West born in 1826 in Boggs Township, Centre County PA. If any of this rings any bells, or anyone would have some ideas, I would really appreciate it. Thanks Dawn West

    3. I would not laminate for long term preservation. I've been told the item still does break down and there is little/no chance of recovery or restoration. The suggestion to contact your scrap booking stores is a good one. Also your genealogical or historical society is a good resource to ask about archival quality storage. 3. I'm not an expert, but laminating will maintain the item's physical integrity, but UV will ultimately still affect the contents. If you ask around at scrapbooking stores they might lead you to laminates which are UV blockers. Also, if you use those handily plastic sheet protectors, make certain they are 'archival' quality or they can do damage to the papers if you use them long-term. While I'm not a fan of 'scrapbooking', the technology you can learn is very helpful in preserving genealogical documents over the long-term. Allen Rev. E.
