I have one bit of information concerning an Elizabeth West. The following was printed in the Knoxville, TN Register newspaper on April 9, 1834. "A list of letters remaining in the Post Office at Kingston, TN on the 1st of April, 1834, which, if not taken out before the 1st day of July next, will be sent to the General Post Office as dead letters . . . Elizabeth West or Joseph Cloud." The Kingston Post office was located in Roane County, TN. > [Original Message] > From: Myra Chambers <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Date: 10/26/2003 10:50:54 PM > Subject: Re: [WEST-L] John Wm. Joe, I am also glad you found the missing photo. I had originally submitted the photo, but lost it when my computer crashed. My scanner wont work with my new 'puter, so I couldn't send it again until I buy a new scanner. Of course, I still have the photo. Hi folks, I'm still searching for relatives from the early from 1700-1850.....I was just advised today by a member of the family that we may, in fact, be related to Benjamin West. I didn't realize this and have been seeing tidbits about him posted here and there throughout the mailing list..and wondered if anyone would be willing to fill me in on details of Benjamin West. Sorry to be a day late on this one, and to bother all of you folks, but I really would appreciate it. Thanks very much. Dawn West
Thanks Kamra, Now, how do I get to the Cornwallis Township Books? I tried the NEHGS library, but their copy is not loanable. Does anyone have a source for purchase? Proof that your Elijah West was the child of Stephen and Margery can be found in the Cornwallis Township books, p. 70. His children by Esther Loomer are listed on p. 57 of the transcribed edition. Hello all: I recently had photos copied at our local office supply warehouse store. I also had copied a 2-page spread from an old magazine showing the interior of a house once lived in by my ancestors. These two pages were loose and somewhat fragile, and I asked for them to be pushed together and copied so that I would have ONE colour photocopy. The technician misunderstood me, put them together and laminated them. The ORIGINALS ! Now they're permanently encased in plastic which I have discovered is NOT acid-free. ARRRGGGGHHHHH ! Lisa, Again, I have to apologize for a delay in responding, both here and to your e-mails. I've been working long days and weekends for awhile; hopefully I can come up for air for a little while now. I'm sure I have an image of the painting you're referring to in one of my books on Benjamin (which, by coincidence, I owned before I knew the relationship, because of my interest in the period). Does that help? I was unable to find a copy of that painting on-line, but here's a pretty good image of the other famous painting with John in it... The Xyron line of laminating machines uses acid-free adhesive. I've used mine to laminate many records, although I have been cautious about any that are irreplaceable (letters, certificates, etc.). The machines do not use heat or electricity and are very easy to use. Xyron has a web site but a Google search will turn up other sources for purchasing a machine. Anita
Stephen West (Abner/ Thomas/ Francis) b. abt. 1724, d. 8 Jan. 1771 m. 1746, Margery ???? . Elijah West (1747-1799?) I don't have records proving this (as of yet), but the sources seem credible.
