    2. It is so exciting and unbelieveable to me to find some information! I am very excited. I just found Sarah's parents in a gedcom mailed to me. They are John West and Catherine Surbaugh. 2. Thanks everyone. With your help I may find a lead on Sarah's parents. After her marriage to John Hall in FL, Sarah Ann Eliza moved to what was then Henry CO AL, later to become Geneva Co. and lived out her life on family land that is still in the Sasser/Hall family today. This would be in the Malvern/Dothan area. Thanks again, Ginny > > Interesting. 3. I've researched this family you mentioned; though can find no evidence of my Francis/Frederick being a part of this family. I chased a Temperance Sharp that married a Majer West in Baldwin County 07/29/1824. I have information at home, though it may not be anymore than you have since I obtained it over the internet, but I'll be more than happy to share it with you. I stopped looking into this family about 7/8 months ago, because I couldn't ever prove that Frederick was Temperance's son. There was a Temperance West living with my Frederick in Houston County in 1850...though I don't believe it was his mother. The Temperance West I followed, I believe was murdered in the Woolfolk Massacres in 1887 in Bibb County, Georgia. Thereis a book out about the Woolfolk Massacres that’s interesting. 1. [WEST-L] More West Books
    2. Jim Coats
    3. Here is another West book. Its title is "From the Yadkin River to West Branch". Subtitle-A history of Thomas and Mary Renshaw West and their descendents. This West family migrated from N.C. to Georgia, then to Arkansas and Oklhoma. One noteable feature of this family was all the sons of Mary and Charles had the middle name of Renshaw. Sorta neat. My ggrandfather James Smith West was the only son not named Renshaw. The book has lots of names. It is (or was) available from the Siloam Spings Printing, P.O. Box 127, Siloam Springs, Ar. 72761. Paperback $20, hardcover $26 plus shipping. Cheers Jim Coats

    2. Linda, I don't know. My Silas West was born about 1832 in NC. At this point I don't have his father's name or mother's name. His parent would have to be born in the late 1700 or early 1800. I can't seem to find anything on his parent. I have the 1850-1870 census. I have Silas married with children in the 1870 census, Sampson County, Westbrook Township, Blackmans Mill, Dwelling 38. He and his wife were stated as Mulatto. There were other WEST living nearby, but have not been able to make the connection. I will save your e-mail. Thanks for the info.

    3. Alice, There was an Abner West connected to my line of West's, who was said to have gone to South Carolina from Mass. He was born April 13, 1759. Do you think your Silas was descended from him? Abner's father was Elisha West. Elisha had a brother, Silas West, who is my 7th great grandfather. There were several Silas Wests connected. Sorry but I don't know the time frame your looking at for your Silas. Linda _________________________________________________________________ Frustrated with dial-up? 2. I have a book called the West family. It gives very limited information on a few Wests. It is by the American Genealogical Research institute. Ellie

    1. Re: [WEST-L] WEST BOOK
    2. Bradley, Sorry, I am still looking for my ancestors. I am trying to find out more information about the White and Mulatto West from Westbrook Township, Blackmans Mill . My ancestors lived in that township in Sampson County. There was a community or area called "THE PINEY" . My gr grandparents Silas WEST b. 1832, he married Winifred "Winnie Barefoot b. 1845, dau. of Clarky Barefoot, father UNK, gr daughter of Noah Barefoot. I have lots of information on her family. But the Silas West Parentage is unknown. Silas and Winnie were both considered Mulatto. So I was just wondering if there were any books written about the origin and migration of the WEST. I have looked at the 1850, 1850 census, but nothing tells me who Silas West's parents were. Any help would be appreciated or where to I look next. Alice West Ferguson
