According to information I have: Francis West [1602 - Jan. 2, 1692 married margaret Reeves. They were from Salisbury, England but no-one has traced Francis's birth record. He is often wrongly attributed to be the son of Captain Francis West and hence back into British Royalty. However, there is absolutely no evidence for these assumptions and lots of evidence to suggest that he was not related to Captain Francis. He was a carpenter by trade. Dr. Thomas West 1646 - Sept. 6, 1706 [son of Francis West & Margery Reeves] m. Elizabeth ?. They lived in Tisbury, Massachussets & are buried there in Crossways cemetery. His daughter Ruth [named after his sister] was born 1in 1685 & married Edward Cartwright. Joan, Hi - my Wests also moved from PA to Virginia. Isaac West (senior) was born in 1741 in PA and then moved and died in Montgomery County, Virginia. There was a John T in that family; he was born in 1766 and died in 1816. He also had a John West (b. 1805)who married Melinda Roberts and had at least one son, Jacob. Jacob married a Rosannah Radford in Floyd County, VA and had at least one son, James Madison. James married (name unknown) and had a Claude Swanson. Same with Claude - who had a son, Rufus Wilton. And Rufus had a daughter, Lisa. Lisa apparently married a man with the last name of Savage. Hi [email protected] My West's also lived in PA. John West & Susannah Pierson had 8 children, Joseph, William, Samuel, Hannah, Mary Rachel, John, & Benjamin. My family member (as far as I have been able to deduce) was Joseph. Joseph actually married twice - but I believe that Jane Owen was the fire who bore him 11 children, Isaac, Sarah, Tracy, Owen, Joseph, George, John, James, Hannah, Benjamin and Thomas. Isaac was born in 1741 in PA. No info on John T. West married a Hester Wright and had at least 8 children, Uria, William, Delila, Lawsey, John, Ruth, Joshua and Martha. Isaac was my family - but the John in the family married a Melinda Roberts and had at least one son, Jacob. Isaac Jr. (my family) married a Mary Lester and had at least 8 children - Jeffrey (my family), Warren, Matilda, Susan or Susannan, Charlotte, Alethia, Mary Ann and Elisabeth. Jeffrey died in the Civil War. Jeffrey married Olinda Smith and had Thomas, Warren, Isaac Polk, Albion, Appolloyon (Pole), John T. and Mary. I believe that all the children were born in TN. Olinda and the kids moved to TX after Jeffrey's death. Thomas Conley married a Sarah Webb and had 9 children, Jesse Belle (my grandma), Thomas Warren, Lillie, Myrtle, Dona, Charlotte, Olive, Zelma and Edie (originally though it was Eddie - but Edie was a female and married a John Freeman. I wonder if Lavina R. West is related to my West Family. James F. West was from Nova Scotia married Elizabeth ? I have very little on him. Daughter Sophia Rachell West m. Frederick B. K. Marter both were born in Nova Scotia they all moved to MASS around 1899. Son Charles Marter went to California. Fran: I saw your post earlier in the week. My West family moved from Georgia to Texas in 1872. I've been told they settled around Dallas, Texas. They had come via boat thru Galveston, though I can find no proof that they came through the port at Galveston. My West family (Frederick and Mary Jane) had all boys and no girls. My great-grandfather, Aurelious Henry West, was one of the sons. Aurelious and brother, James Allen West, both moved and settled in Oklahoma around 1900. Yes, I know... Oh, no, not ANOTHER one!! :-) Mine is a REAL PUZZLER. I have my Maternal Great Granny to blame for this guy even being connected to my family at all.:-) The story centers around folks who lived in Warrick, and Perry Counties, Indiana, between 1871 & 1900. You see, between 1889, and 1915, Mary Hesson married 5 men from Indiana & Ky., and had children by at least 2 of them, though each child has a different last name. :-) I know very, very little about any of the folks in this little drama. Anyway, this story begins with Margaret Jewell, a woman who died in Owensboro, Ky. on 12/11/1938, of tuburculosis, at the age of 44. Her Mother signed the death certificate as Mrs. Mary Fields (hubby #5). Margaret (Maggie) was born to a John West and Mary on 12/18/1893, in Indiana. Here's where things get intriguing, and messy. First let me say that Mary died in 1957, at age 85, putting her birth at 1871/72. As I said She was a horny ol'broad and Mr. West was hubby #2. She married hubby #1, some guy last named Chenault in abt. 1889, but must have married Mr. West by 1893 when Maggie was born. She, ( and Maggie West ) seem to have left Mr. West sometime in the next few yrs. because she appears ( with Maggie West ) as a boarder in the household of hubby #4, My Great-Grandfather,the widower, John T. Wells, in the 1900 Indiana census, under the last name of Skelton (hubby #3). This is interesting, in and of itself, because My Grandfather William Jennings Wells is on record as being born in 1897.:-) Mystery? Is he truly a Skelton who was LEGALLY adopted by Wells AFTER 1900 when he and Mary must have got hitched? Anyway, I have no clue of the fate of my John West. I DO have a clue as to his ORIGIN, and the connections between Mary and her 1st 3 husbands. A fellow researcher, last year, turned up an intriguing set of listings in the 1880 census CD for Indiana: Pigeon, Warrick County, Indiana: William West/Catherine West with, among others, a son named John, age 9, born 1871. JUST DOWN THE STREET: Joseph M. Skelton/Mary E. Skelton with a son named Anson, age 10, born 1870. ALSO NEARBY: Mary Hessons family. MEANWHILE, in Cannelton, in Perry County: Jos. Chenault/Martha Chenault, with sons John, age 11, and Arthur, age 8. This is all very intriguing, and mysterious, and, now that I live so close to the National Archives I will be able to go look this all up and copy it for verification. To bad the 1890 census is lost.
