Hello, I'm sorry! I had commented on the WEST people in my family, and several WEST members sent me their info, hoping the names would match with mine. After being gone for a few days I had to dump my messages, and so those who had sent me messages were dumped, too. Thanks for calling my attention to the list. ---- Original Message ---- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [WEST-L] Need new list! In reply to the question of Dela Warre lineage. This is where I found the data. Book Title The Noble Lineage of the Delaware-West Family of Virginia Through Col. John West his sons and his daughter Anne West who married Henry Fox by Ann Woodard Fox Edited by Margaret McNeill Ayres 1958 It states: "Francis West, he evidentaly moved to New England, as the tomb of Samuel West of New Bedford, Mass, who died in 1807, shows that he was a greatgrandson of Francis West, son of Capt Francis West." Capt. Francis West, Deputy Gov. of VA 1827-29 I was also told the following quote: "Sackfield West was son of Thomas West, Physician, the son of _____West, the son of Capt. Francis West, brother of the 3rd Lord DelaWarre, Gov of VA". " Capt. West cames from England to VA in 1608" I do have a photo copy of the page from the book for my own referrance. It is all I have to go on for this lineage. Fran in MI

Hi: Sorry, but the tombstone does not check out. I asked a Cape Cod cousin to photogaph it a year ago. She located the cemetery, but the tombstone is missing. The cemetery officials reported that the tombstone had either disintegrated or been stolen. However, they have a record of the inscription, and the inscription was as follows: "Samuel West, D. D., & c, the son of Dr. Sackfield West, by his wife, Ruth Jenkins, was born at Yarmouth, C. C., March 3rd, 1729 -30. O.S. Ordained this place June 3, 1761. Reduced his pastoral charge in June 1803. Died at Tiverton, R.I., September 24th, 1807." The inscription can also be found in : The History of New Bedford" by Daniel Ricketson, published in 1858. It never connected Samuel to the DeLaWarr family. I have no idea how this misinformation got started. But there is still nothing to connect Francis West of Duxbury to the Governor [De La Warr of Virginia. I'd love it to be otherwise. Hello all, I post periodically also looking for West cousins in Marshall Co Al. Noted your posting with the name 'Arrilla' and I remembered I have a copy of a marriage license for one with that name. Interestingly, this seems like an unusual name, but there was another with that name in that area. Arrilla Jane West married 20 Oct 1867 to someone whose name was erased and then written in again over that smearing the name. Last name possibly began with a 'P', next letters look like 'oto' or 'ata'. I have copies of documents with various Wests, most not related to me that I know of. For Jim Nixon, This will only add to your confusion, but the only WEST ancester I know is Lavinia West and she happens to have history in the Frederick Co., Md. area. But--you mentioned Frederick, Md. and I jumped on it like a bug. I have to link up with someone in the general area, (being anywhere in Md or Delaware) or wherever the boundaries happened to be at one time or another. Sometimes I'm not sure whether I'm studying history or geography. Rosie in Indiana __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Free Pop-Up Blocker - Get it now http://companion.yahoo.com/

Hi, I am posting my husband's West family, with additional information. I have sent some of the names before. Does anyone on the list think they could have a connection to this West family? James Jesse West, b. June 14, 1814 in PA. He listed his father, on the 1880 census, as being born in Indiana. (no name) James married (1) Mary Rogers in Washtenaw Co. MI in 1835. He married (2) Frances ? after 1880 in NE. James J. died in Butler Co. NE in 1895. Have not found information on his brothers, or sisters. These are the names of his children: (In case the names bear a resemblance to another West family.) 1.. Sarah West, b. Quincy, MI in 1836. 2.. Harriet West, b. 1838. in Quincy, MI married Hartson Meredith. 3.. Charles Henry West, b. 1840. Quincy, MI d. Civil War. 4.. Anna West, b. 1843. Married a Rustine. 5.. James Albert West, b. 1845, New London, Findley Co., Ohio. (My husbands great grandfather. 6.. Randolph West, b. 1851 7.. Edmund West, b. 1853, Branch Co. MI married Molly Hedge. 8.. Flora A. West Wast, b. 1856. The above Wests seem to have lived a long life. When they lived to adulthood, they died in their late 80's or 90's. Happy Holidays, Dawn Carpenter
Happy Thanksgiving to all... I would like any info on the following: John West, b.1735, Tisbury, Ma. (son of: Thomas West m Druisilla Presbury) m to: Waitstill Mercy Chase son: John West b. 1768 m Mass, m to: Abby ? if anyone has any info on these two, or there wives, children, etc., I would appreciate it in order to complete my line. Thank you in advance. Susan Watson
Hi back Susan, what I have that links your Dr. Thomas West to Francis & Margery is book on the DeleWarre lines and it states that a tombstone was found in Tiverton RI that had the inscription of the lineage of the deceased and it stated ( based on the book) that Samuel West d. 1807 (who died in another state but was buried in RI), was son of Sackfield West, son of Thomas West, Physician, son of ____West, brother to the 3rd Lord Delewarre. This would indicate that ___West would be Francis West of Duxbury. This is the only "documentation" that anyone has ever found that links Francis of Duxbury to the DeleWarre lineage. Hope this helps. I should look more into what I have photo copied to see if there are any dates we can use. I photo copy stuff all the time but never get around to putting it into the computer.
