Hi Lisa: Willard WEST, my new cousin, and I had corresponded before, because our WEST ancestors were in the same county at the same time. We could never find anything to tie them together before the DNA test. He had Mariah as the mother, and I had been looking for a Delphia. Did FTDNA send you or Tom the url for your personal DNA page? They show Tom's results expected on 14 December. I hope we get them before Christmas. Hello cousins: We have our second DNA match. AND IT"S ME!!!!! This match proved a relationship that would have been questionable otherwise. Here is what we had before the DNA test. 1860 census, Wayne Co. TN James WEST 25 TN Delpha 23 TN Mary 3 TN Frances J. 1 TN I knew this James WEST was the son of William WEST and nephew of my ancestor Felix WEST. I have searched for the above family, but had found nothing after the 1860 census. My new cousin had the following on his ancestor James W. WEST. 1870 census, Hardin Co. TN (Hardin adjoins Wayne Co. TN) Mariah West 31 Frances 12 James w 6 Isaac H 2 His ancestor, James Wesley WEST, matches the child in the 1870 census. The only thing connecting the above two families is the girl Frances who is age 1 in 1860 and 12 in 1870 - too thin to build a pedigree on that alone. The discrepancy in the age of the mother in the above families, 23 in 1860 and 31 in 1870, (Mariah is age 38 in the 1880 census) is less than some variations we have all seen when researching census records. His family has an oral tradition that the father of James Wesley WEST was killed by bushwhackers shortly before the birth of his last son. This would explain why I could not find this family after the 1860 census. We now think that the wife Delpha WEST in the 1860 census, is a widow using the name MARIAH WEST in 1870 and later records. One more clue from our traditional genealogy reseach. In 1887 James Wesley WEST married Annis MADDOX. In the 1880 census for Hardin Co. TN Annie I. MADDOX is living in the household of her father Dan'L MADDOX in Hardin Co. TN. Dan'L MADDOX lives adjacent to William WEST. We are now confident that this William WEST is the grandfather of James Wesley WEST. William WEST is the brother of my ancestor Felix WEST. The DNA test confirmed beyond doubt that he and I share a common ancestor. We still have some work to do on this family, but we can now focus on a single line and collaborate on our research. This is my first male WEST cousin that I have been able to find beyond my grandfather. I am very excited, and had to share this with our extended WEST group. We had no idea that we could be related a year ago when this project was started. Check our DNA wepage at: http://web.utk.edu/~corn/westdna/ Dennis West coordinator for WEST surname DNA project
Interest in any information that you have on Felix R. West, son of William James West. Do you have a name of his wife? Felix West born April 26, 1830 in Kentucky and moved to Henry County, Missouri where he died in 1915. This Felix West is my deceased husband Andrew Earl Brown great grandfather. Thank you. Clara A. Brown

Hi everyone, This is something I am curious about, I have Asthma here at 41, even though my DR. told me I would out grow it. I know my daughter has it too. My father doesn't have the asthma. I was born harelipped and cleft palate. Are there any WEST that have this in their family West line. My grandfather William Cephas West had a brother Lorenzo West whose daughter had a Hare lipped and Cleft Palate. Bradley Lee West
My father contracted TB in the late 1940's. Don't know about his father. My son has asthma and my brother died,as a baby, with pneumonia. I also had pneumonia when I was a baby and have allergies which affect my lungs. These are the only occurrences of lung problems I know of in our families. The West connection was on my father's side. His mother, a Cartwright was descended from Edward Cartwright who married Ruth West in 1740. Maybe it would have been worse if the West had been a male, or for all I know, the tendancy for lung problems is 100% environmental in my case. Just a thought. Susan [email protected]
Well add another one I have had Asthma since I was 10 months old. Had Emphysema by the time I was 15 and now COPD. It came from both sides of my family. More so from my DAD's the WEST's. The Dr's. say it is inherited "through" the men. However it is inherited, I also personally think "environment" has ALOT to do with it . I lived in a coal mining town and we burned coal. The old steam engines chugging by belching out the smoke and cinders every little bit. There also was a tram road, for the cars to go into deep mines, and beside it where a few had wrecked and dumped the raw coal over the sides of the hill was a big "gob" pile. This gob was not really coal but it burned and it would catch on fire and burned for years. It smelled of sulphur very strong so I had ALOT of things that compromised my health. By the way COAL MINING has really changed and things are not like that now. I am proud to be a Coal Miner's daughter. Marlene
