Hi Everyone. I was wondering if there are archives for the West-L? I have too many emails in my mailbox, but since I have just started researching my lone west person I didn't want to delete them...just in case...you know. LOL I can put them into my saved section, but on the other hand, I don't want to have it taking up my hd space either. So my question is - If I delete all these emails that I don't think match my West, will they be lost forever?? Samuel's wife remains unidentified. We have three of us that match in our WEST family group number ten. I am W39. At present, I am searching for a male, lineal descendant of Willis WEST who is willing to have his DNA tested. Many, many queries have been placed on message boards around the world with no results. So far, I have corresponded with four proved descendants of Willis who steadfastly refuse to have their DNA tested. 3. Anne - I hope you read my West line that I included in my last post. There's an interesting fact about A- blood types by the way. It's being squeezed out of the gene pool and is most prevalent with Celtic groups of people and the Basque people between France and Spain. So I want to know what the necessity of A- negative was in the first place and why it now is going obsolete? So much to learn! Whew! I hope that I live long enough for this unraveling. I watched something on the Discovery/History/NGEO station about the Vikings and they at one time inhabited the area in Scotland that my grandmother is from on my paternal side. They brought up crooked little fingers and said that the Vikings infused that into us. Who knows?! The West line that I am from had families that were big. They went everywhere. I just don't want to find out that my "tree" doesn't branch. Sandra

    3. I have question for you Dennis. "W59 was added to this family group on 3 May 2005. He matches other members of Family Group #5 on all markers tested, indicating that he shares a common ancestor with that group. His oldest identified ancestor is Robert West, born about 1834 in Hanover County Virginia, married Mary CLAYTON. Robert WEST was African-American, but we are unsure at present whether he was born in slavery. It is likely that his father or grandfather was a slave owner or overseer." If W59 is descended from an African American...why would his Haplo group be R1b? Wouldn't it have showed that at least a part of him came out of Africa whether his ancestor was a slave or freedman and born in this country? Is W59 an African American? and ....... In WEST family group 1 - "Samples W02, W05, W15, and W57 have a very rare marker at DYS 426. The value of 14 for DYS 426 has been found in only 5 of over 12,000 DNA samples analyzed by FTDNA's testing lab." What does this "rarity" indicate? I am a little overwhelmed that so many West lines have been identified as separate from one another. Jeeeeeeeze! I had no idea. I tried to go back and find the exact number of lines but my eyes are crossed from reading so much. VBG I think it was 50+ or so. Thanks for your considerations Dennis in answering my questions. I have to save to get this done and I want to make sure it will satisfy my curiosity or at least prove/disprove our West Link to Jamestown. Sandra

    3. Hello Alice, Dennis and everyone - I have enclosed a link to my West line at the bottom of this email. There are around 14 generations. I have proven this line from Francis all the way down but there is much confusion as to who his father was. I am hoping that some of the West's descendants (de le Warr) from the Jamestown Virginia group have had their DNA done. My instincts tell me that we are no relation at all but some cousins insist that royalty and castles await us. Actually I think we are more than likely castle trash (peasants VBG) and I like that. On my mother's side I am supposed from the tri-isolate group called Melungeons. On another side I go back to the Vikings according to Burke's Peerage, The Anglo Saxon chronicles and the Eddas. Plus, I have an aunt that is so dark, they called her "black Betty" her entire life. My sister has Africa in her hair - we had to press it on the ironing board to straighten it. LOL After reading as much on DNA/genealogy as I can, I have this need to know what groups I have in me. This may sound far out but I also believe in genetic memory. Afterall, isn't memory just a cell? Could be wrong. I will check that site out Dennis and thanks so much for sending it along. I would hope that with so many testing facilities now that prices would come down. I keep thinking about the Ice Man they found and were able to get dna from. Who do they test against with the West's and do they know how many lines they have coming down from different West men? In my heart I believe that all of these DNA projects that are taking place are the key to our survival on this planet. It pleases me to be on the planet at the same time with all of you searchers. Thanks for sharing. As for the missing thumbs, webbed problems, look at Ann Boleyn, she was poly-dactyl with six fingers on one hand so perhaps your royalty is showing. VBG Here's the link - hope it helps someone. It is my no mean perfect - I posted it 10 years ago and make changes as I find the need to. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/p/r/o/Sandra-W-Prowell/GENE1-0001.html if this doesn't work - let me know and I will get it to you some other way. 2. Sandra, Bradley, and others, We do not yet have a documented descendent of Willis West in our DNA project. Several people are interested in that line, and I am hopeful that we will find the right person to test soon. Sandra, the Y-chromosome DNA test that we are using does not give any medical information. With a very rare exception, 1 in several thousand males may be missing one of the markers called DYS 464. When that occurs, that male may be infertile. The cost of the test has recently gone down a little, you can see the current costs for various tests on the FAQ page of our web site: http://web.utk.edu/~corn/westdna/west2.htm Alice gave the url for the WEST DNA web site, here is the page which lists the oldest ancestor of the DNA participants: http://web.utk.edu/~corn/westdna/west6.htm Please email me if I can help in any way. 2. Bradley, I am glad you asked the million dollar question. Not that we know of. We (Fran West Powell and I) have been trying to get someone from the family of Willis West to participate. Nothing yet. My name is Alice West Ferguson and my brother, Rudy West participated last year. We match 12 out of 12 markers with James West, b. 1798, SC. We believe that we are connected to his first wife and children. No records of name from the marriage only ages. He moved to TN and later moved to MS where he died. I am in contact with James West descendants (2 female cousins (Mary Hill and Beth Strue)) who lived in TX. There is another gentleman, Joseph West whom we matched also. He had an extra marker, 13th marker. But we all had 12 out of 12. We think James West was related to Willis, maybe a brother or nephew. Maybe you can find something out since we hit a brick wall. We believe that we are connected to the Willis West family. My g grandfather, Silas West lived in the same block of dwellings as his son Lloyd West descendants of Willis West in the Westbrook Township, Sampson Co., NC. How does one get families to take the DNA test? Its really easy. The four of us chipped into together and paid for out DNA test. Alice WEST Ferguson ...
