    3. Can anyone help with this info received from a friend in Canada? Regards Tessa "John Spencer ---The IGI has him born Jan 11 1808 and the record that I have of him from his oldest son says Jan 11 1806.However I have 2 counties of birth for him ---1 from the son again that says he was born in Lancashire and the other county is in a record of another son's death and it says Hampshire. No village name on either. They also have 2 counties for John's wife, Harriet Adams---first is Yorkshire and the other Lincs. Thus my dilemma. Not great, is it. The first record also says John was in the British army for 25 yrs, 4 months and 3 days. Before that he had been apprenticed to a farmer. They were in Canada by 1848 by the time their oldest son, John was born and that is from the=e the IGI also but I knew that the son was born in Toronto at about that time"

    3. Hi Tessa, the IGI, like any other transcription is prone to errors, I would always place more weight on evidence from a family member. Don't neglect the fact that you may have information on more than one person, the pool of names was much smaller at that time than it is now.
