This one is a real mystery! I know that he was appointed a Captain in the Royal Marines in 1838-I have the papers signed by the young Victoria. He could be related to RICHARD JAMES WALTER TOBY who was a CDR.(Retd.) in the 1840s.In which case Hampshire would be the best bet for Isaac's birthplace. But other Tobys in my late husband's tree are in Devon and Cornwall. On my sittingroom wall I have a portrait of a young man in military uniform-referred to by my late father-in-law as "The Ancestor".I'd love to identify him!! Perhaps someone can help? TIA Pat Oliver
