    1. [WSX] PENFORD
    2. John Lewis
    3. I am trying to find the origins of the PENFORD family who were farmers/butchers in Kingsclere, Hants in the early to late 1800s. John and Sarah Penford who were having children at Harridens Farm, Kingsclere between 1816 and 1831. John and his forebears do not seem to have been born in Kingsclere, nor did the marriage take place there. Sarah is recorded in Kingsclere in 1851 Census age 61 born Swallowpit (Swallowfield?), Berks. John presumably died before 1851 but is not buried in Kingsclere. And where did Thomas Penford marry Mary Ann X?. They appear in the baptism register for St. Paul, Ashford Hill only in 1846 for the baptism of son William (bapt. 4 Oct 1846). Thomas is recorded as a Farmer but not where. I suspect he is the eldest son of John and Sarah, bapt. at St. Mary Kingsclere on 8 Sep 1816 and probably went home to have his first child baptised in the local church. Any information on this family will be welcomed. --- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software Main Family Names in HAM are: Kingsclere: BUTLER, COOPER, FISHER, FOSTER, GIRDLER, HAWKINS, SMITH Hazeley Heath: BARKER, CHANDLER, LEWINGTON, NEVILL(E) Main Family Names in GLA are: GRIFFITH, HOPKINS, JENKINS, LEWIS.
