Hello listers I have re-registered to this list after a long period away. I would very much appreciate any advice with regards to my brick wall, (unfortunately it is still the same brick wall as when I was last registered) My grandfather John BAKER, enlisted in the Gloucestershire Regiment in 1914, he gave his address as 102 High Street, Midsomer Norton, Somerset. I have made several searches and have actually been to Midsomer Norton to see this address, but if I was looking correctly it is now a supermarket. There was a Frederick and Ada Matthews living in this address at this time, no sign of John BAKER, I believe he had a sister, but I can't find any evidence to suggest that maybe Ada was John's sister. The other information I have on John BAKER is that he had 4 children with my grandmother, Alice May Thorogood nee Simmonds (they never married), but Alice May was married to George Thorogood. John and Alice May lived in Ilford, Essex until his death on 11th March 1933. Any advice as to how I could find out if John was at 102 High Street in 1914 or why he would have given this address. I have had a search done on my behalf but there was no sign of a John BAKER anywhere! Thank you in advance for any help...
