Hi, Can anyone please tell me if Trowbridge Parish Church has a record of burial plots, ie who was buried where? I would like to locate the graves of my gggrandparents who died between 1837 and 1842 and are recorded in the Burial register. Their graves are not marked and never were. Many thanks Judith _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
I had cause to write to the Cemetary Superintendent, Trowbridge and he was very helpful to me and gave me the details of a 1920 burial. I don't know how he would be a century earlier but you could try. Many thanks >Judith Judith I don't know the answer for Troubridge St James in particular, but the simple answer is probably no - few churches bother with this sort of thing - they have more than enough problems simply trying to maintain them and in many cases have removed all the grave stones to make maintenance easier ! For an example of the problem some where else and the solution you might like to have a look at: http://www.pbenyon.plus.com/Portland/Wyke/All_Saints/All_Saints_Graveyard.html Your best bet is to see if the WFHS has transcribed the Troubridge St James MIs - if so they probably mapped the plots that still have markers. But having said that I understand that it is customary to deposit a copy with the church and sometimes at the Record Office ;-) Church staff are usually very busy so I would recommend that you explore the alternative avenues before approaching them.
