Hi I am reposting my Wiltshire interest in the HAYTER family. I have a fairly extensive family tree covering the South African branch and have just found out that we have a Wiltshire connection. My info on this is limited to information from the Goldsmiths' Company regarding the coat of arms for my 3 x great grandfather GEORGE SMITH HAYTER which, I am told by the Goldsmiths' Company says he is "Hayter of Salisbury" and mentions Lister of Yorkshire which would refer to his wife ALICE LISTER who was born in Whitgift, Yorkshire. The Goldsmiths' Company also tell me that his father was THOMAS HAYTER, Silversmith, who died in Pentonville, London in 1840, his mother was MARTHA SMITH (daughter of GEORGE and HANNAH SMITH, Goldsmith of London), and his grandfather was JOHN HAYTER, Carver, of Cavendish Street, Middlesex in 1782. George Smith Hayter's coat of arms is the same as Sir William Goodenough Hayter without, of course, the reference to the title, and WGH is also a younger son (reference also made to that fact on the coat of arms). I would love to contact others researching this family and to share my South African family with them.
