Sorry about last email...had a senior moment (suffering from AnnesHill Itus) and it came out rather garbled: Re Portsea/Portsmouth checking BMD 1/4 isn't enough as there were many many entries & some 80+ churches for the area so a GRO index look would be needed first by you to provide a date. Meant to say that for a baptism look up, the GRO quarter is not enough as a baptism could have taken place years after the birth whereas at least with marriage or burials, the parish register entry has a pretty good chance of being in the quarter that the event took place. In Portsea, an address is useful if you don't have IGI data, so that at least we can narrow down the choice of church. Thanks folks Linda & Tony
