    3. Good day to you all, In the church at Christow in Devon is a memorial erected by one Thomas GIBBON to his wife Elizabeth who died in 1660. On the memorial is a coat of arms, the blazon I think would read like this: sable, a lion rampant, guardant, ducally crowned, or, between three escallops, ar. Crest. a lion rampant, guardant, ducally crowned, or, holding betw. his paws an escallop, ar. According to the Alumni Oxonienses, Thomas was son of William Gibbon, of Holcomb Rogus, Devon, born 1616. Thomas went to be a MP for Exeter. I am trying to find out more about the family and the coat of arms. I am thinking that may be William is a relative to John of Dorchester. I have discovered that John GIBBON Esq. of Dorchester was granted the same arms, so I am trying to find out more about John. The arms were granted by Sir William Segar, Garter King. Segar died in 1633. I am doing a study of the name Gibbons and it's variations in Devon before 1760, so will be very happy to share my notes with anyone interested in the name. Thank you for reading this. Best wishes, Chris. Gibbins
