Have been recently corresponding with someone on the Isle of Wight list and we discovered that in some censuses the wife of the person we were discussing was called Charlotte and in others Maria. Eventually found she was christened Charlotte Maria. I'm not saying these two incidents are related (despite name similarities) but fashions in names change over time, and maybe Mary preferred to be called Charlotte, perhaps it was her middle name and avoided confusion at Heale House. Just a thought.
