I am trying to find my gr.gr.grandfather George STONE,a saddler, in 1851.He was born in 1829 in Mere, Wilts, so would be 22 in 1851. He married in Mere in 1853 and lived there until his death in 1908 except for a short time in 1860s when he lived in Gillingham,Dorset. He is not on the 1851 census for Mere,East or West Knowle,Monckton Deverill, Kingston Deverill, or Maiden Bradley. I believe he may have been off apprenticing as a saddler or harness maker. Could someone please check the 1851 census for Bourton and Gillingham to see if he is there.He may have been with a Thomas Landerwick, saddler, in Bourton. There were STONEs in both of these places.
