Hi Sally I see that you've been advised that the registration letters refer to Somerset. In which case if the records for what I seem to remember used to be called the Local Taxation Office still exist then the Somerset Record Office should be the place to look. Unfortunately the Somerset Records Office Web Site is off-line at the moment, but if you try tomorrow and have a look at the Archives List Search Page at: http://www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/asp/querylst.asp and input Local Taxation Office or Vehicle Licences it would be interesting to see if you receive any hits. Alternatively you could write to the archives department at: Somerset_Archives@compuserve.com and see if they can provide anything additional to that already suggested on the list?
