Am interested in finding out about Sarah George GIBBONS who died in March quarter of 1871, aged 35, registered at Chard. A James Gibbons gave the information at her death and she was noted as being a dairy women working at Henly Farm, Crewkerne. No parents are noted. James could possibly be her father or a brother.??? Sarah gave birth in 1863 to Albert Edward Gibbons at Cold Harbour, Sherbourne, Dorset. Although the birth entry in the Parish Register transcripts seems to read that he was born to Sarah & George Gibbons, on applying for his birth certificate it definitely gives the name of his mother as Sarah George Gibbons. He came to Australia as Albert Edward COLES and went by the Coles' surname, although in his "adoptive father's" will (i.e. William Simon Coles' will), he was named as Gibbons, which gave us the clue to finding his birth. It would seem that William Coles and his wife Rebecca, nee Glyde, must have "adopted" him prior to them leaving England and coming to Aust. in 1875. We wonder if Sarah could possibly have been connected to either the Coles or Glyde families? Just a thought! If there is anyone out there who is researching GIBBONS, COLES or GLYDE families in Dorset, I would appreciate hearing from you. T.I.A Min Qld. Australia
