    3. Min Sarah George GIBBONS was baptised 13 September 1835 at Doulting, Somerset and was the daughter of James GIBBONS and Sarah nee GEORGE of Bodden Farm, Doulting. As far as I know she was one of five children of James and Sarah. I suspect the James GIBBONS who registered her death was her father, although I only have information on him up to 1851. But then I've not looked in Crewkerne for this family. I will now add this to my to do list. In the 1851 census Sarah was working as the housekeeper for her uncle, Stephen GIBBONS at Croscombe. Unfortunately, I don't have the reference to hand, but I can let you have it if you wish. James GIBBONS and Sarah nee GEORGE were married on 10 January 1825 at Batcombe, Somerset by licence. Their other children were Henry GIBBONS baptised 21 Apr 1829 at Batcombe; Mary Ann GIBBONS baptised 15 April 1831 at Doulting; Thomas John GIBBONS baptised 20 January 1832 Doulting and dead by 1841; and Elizabeth GIBBONS baptised 20 October 1839 Doulting, but possibly dead by 1851. James GIBBONS was the son of John GIBBONS and Elizabeth nee GILES of Batcombe, Somerset. He was the seventh of their 11 children. Thanks to a distant cousin I have extensive information on the GIBBONS family and I am happy to share this if you reply off-list. I am descended from John GIBBONS' brother Henry GIBBONS and his wife Sarah HUTTON. If anyone else recognises any of the above names, do get in touch. A James Gibbons gave the information at her death and she was noted as being a dairy women working at Henly Farm, Crewkerne. No parents are noted. James could possibly be her father or a brother.??? > > Sarah gave birth in 1863 to Albert Edward Gibbons at Cold Harbour, Sherbourne, Dorset. Although the birth entry in the Parish Register transcripts seems to read that he was born to Sarah & George Gibbons, on applying for his birth certificate it definitely gives the name of his mother as Sarah George Gibbons. > > He came to Australia as Albert Edward COLES and went by the Coles' surname, although in his "adoptive father's" will (i.e. William Simon Coles' will), he was named as Gibbons, which gave us the clue to finding his birth. It would seem that William Coles and his wife Rebecca, nee Glyde, must have "adopted" him prior to them leaving England and coming to Aust. in 1875. > > We wonder if Sarah could possibly have been connected to either the Coles or Glyde families? Just a thought! > > If there is anyone out there who is researching GIBBONS, COLES or GLYDE families in Dorset, I would appreciate hearing from you. > > T.I.A > Min > Qld.
