    1. [WSX] PRESS Thomas, gravestone, Easton-in-Gordano
    2. Ian and Jo Jeremiah
    3. Hi Listers, Yesterday, there was a rare spell of sunshine so we took a drive to visit Pill, Easton-in-Gordano and Portbury, places associated with my PRESS ancestors. The churchyard at Easton-in-Gordano has many old graves. Their inscriptions make for fascinating reading as a number of them record the deaths of Pill pilots and master mariners. I was extremely fortunate to find the grave of Thomas PRESS who died on 18th April 1836, aged 85 years. The gravestone also commemorated his son another Thomas PRESS and his daughter-in-law, Mary PRESS. Thomas PRESS, the son, died on 18th April 1845, aged 70 years while Mary, his wife, died on October 24th 1864, aged 83 years. The son and daughter-in-law may have been the Thomas PRESS and Mary HELLEN who were married on 19th October 1801 at St James, Bristol. (HELLEN is a surname, which has associations with St. Georges/Easton-in-Gordano.) I have 1841, 1851 and 1881 census information on my PRESS family and 1830-1841 PRESS baptisms from the Easton-in-Gordano parish registers. Some of the census information and the baptism information has been courtesy of kind listers. If anyone has access to parish registers for any earlier baptism, marriage or burial information for PRESS at Easton-in-Gordano or Portbury I would be very pleased to receive it.
