Unfortunately, the book is no longer in print -- the late author's family has considered having some copies made, but I know they have not done so yet. You might be able to get it from a library or the Public Archives of Nova Scotia may be able to help you. *************** John Higgins was born in Wiltshire, England. He enlisted in the 70th (East Surrey) Regiment of Foot, whilst that unit was stationed at Leeds, Yorkshire. On 25 April, 1777 he was transferred to the Grenadier Company under Captain George Hewitt. He went to America in 1778 with the Regiment and was discharged there on October 24, 1783, before the 70th Foot returned to England. Before leaving for America 1778, he married Hester Carmichael. 1. John Higgins and Hester Carmichael had 6 sons and 2 duas. *2-1 John b. 1783 d. Feb. 12, 1861 age 79 Research by T.H. (2) Elizabeth Ogilvie They had 1 dau 10-9 Jane *2-1 John, called John 2nd (1st son of John and Hester Carmichael Higgins) md. Sarah Whidden (1782-Feb. 3, 1871) dau. of Simeon and Dorothy Whidden. They had 4 sons and 4 duas. 11-1 Simeon b. 1810-1887 12-2 John 3rd 13-3 James 14-4 George 1820-1896 15-5 Sarah 16-6 Abigail 17-7 Janet 18-8 Eliza Ann Note: Jenny had her own numbering system eg. 2-1 for John simply means that he #2 -- since John 1st is #1 and the 2nd digit represents his order of birth.
