Can anyone help please, or have an opinion on the following which might launch me into lateral thought, space or deeper despair! I am trying to find a link between two PENTON families which has so far eluded myself and others. In his will dated 11 July 1832, Thomas PENTON, miller from Bransbury refers no less than 8 times to another, "Thomas PENTON, otherwise MUNDY, carpenter of Upper Clatford". Each time this same laborious phrase is repeated in full, and we are still having difficulty in locating a link - the puzzle is the "..otherwise MUNDY..." Does anyone have any experience of this type of reference in a Will - "..otherwise.."? We know there were 2 Thomas PENTONs in Upper Clatford at that time, one the son of the other, and we know the son was a carpenter. Could it be to differentiate between them? If so why not "jnr"? All opinions and views gratefully appreciated.
