In September 1839 - my 3 x great grandfather Joseph HOLDER of Frampton Cotterell, Gloucs. arranged a lease for a year for a Public House called and known by the name of NEW INN, by estimation 5 acres more or less. The Indenture was between George Augustas THOMAS & James WARREN of Newport Mon., for a consideration of 5/- Does anyone know if this "New Inn" was in Gloucestershire or Monmouthshire? Or does every English village have an Inn by that name! Cheers, Desley Hardy, Adelaide, South Australia
Hi Desley! If you log onto the 19th century map at: http://www.old-maps.co.uk/oldSite/10glou131/HTML/fs_13068SE1h.htm you will see the New Inn in Frampton Cottrell just next to St Peter's Church. It wasn't an uncommon name for a pub in those days but by no means every village had one!
