    3. G'day Some new entries on my GLS Immigrants to Australia pre 1888 Index Ruth HOLDER born GLS arrived VIC 1855 aged 44 per "Caldera" as an unassisted immigrant. In 1856 she married James MURPHY in VIC; there were no chn, not surprising considering her age. They appeared to live in the Winchelsea area of VIC. Ruth died in 1878 when she was said to be aged 71, parents given as Thomas HOLDER and Sarah BILLET. Phillip TAINTON and his wife Jane nee BRINKWORTH and chn Harriet 18, Richard 16, Hannah 10, Eliza 6 and William 2 arrived 1841 "Burhampooter" (Sydney NSW) as Bounty Immigrants. They were Baptists and are mentioned in the Shortwood Emigrant List. Phillip became a member of the Church in 1816; and a member of the Shortwood Benefit Society in 1828 at age 31. According to a deacon's note in Oct 1836 he kept a beer house or public inn at Newmarket. He contributed 2 guineas to the building of the new meeting house in 1837-8. Jane became a member in 1830; she and Phillip were married at Horsley 30 Oct 1820. They were both removed from membership of the church in 1848. Phillip was bapt Horsley 22 Mar 1797; parents Richard TAINTON (a weaver dead in 1841) and Ursula nee ARNOLD (also dead in 1841). Jane said she was born c1802, the dau of William BRINKWORTH, a baker, and Esther (dead in 1841). Jane died shortly after arrival at Sydney in 1841. The family was in Victoria by 1849 when dau Hannah married James LUCAS; 9 chn. Widowed, Hannah married twice more. Son Richard married Eliza PERRETT in VIC 1851; 8 chn. Dau Eliza married John THOMPSON in 1853; 8 chn. Phillip TAINTON appears to have remarried Mary WILSON in 1854; Mary was aged about 47 and there were no chn. The family all lived in the Geelong area where Phillip was a milkman. Dau Harriet died unmarried in 1878, though she appears to have had an illegitimate dau Jane in 1863 who died in infancy. She is buried with her father Phillip who died 1875 aged 79. Any interest in the above; please note they are not my families; entries on my GLS Immigrants to Australia pre 1888 Index.
