Dear all I am seeking help looking for YOELLs of Portsea / Portmouth I have an Ellen A YOELL aged 70 in 1881 born Portsea, living at 8 Landport Terrace, Portsea Isabella born 1806 Portsea ( died 1874 ) Amelia born 1787 Portsea ( died 1875 ) It has been suggested that the YOELL could have been an Anglicising of a Jewish name such as JOELL ( or similar ) The family are tailors, Jewellers & Silversmiths, also as Portsmouth was a large port it could be where they landed, possibly to escape persecution? Does anyone have any early trade directories that may list any YOELLs ?
