Hi I have a convict ancestor Ann Viles or Vales who according to her convict indent was born in Ilvechester Somerset in about 1768. Is there such a place ( I haven't found it yet) or do you think it is probably Ilchester. Thanks Nicole Central Coast NSW Australia

Hi Nicole Yes, certainly sounds like Ilchester and maybe Ilchester Gaol was the place she was incarcerated too? Unfortunately the on-line list of prisoners for Ilchester http://www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/database/Prisoner.htm only includes early 19th century residents.
