Hello All, Thanks to everyone who has sent information about Genge families in Dorset, none of which are in the branch of the family I am researching unfortunately. They may come into it once I get further back though. Can anyone help with the Genge branch in Gosport Hampshire into which George Genge was born in 1813? I have this information from the 1851 census for Shaftesbury Dorset. This is as far as I have reached in my searches, difficulty with transport (country life!), and distances to travel to the nearest town with library or archive materials preclude research more than once a week. I once read in a book that all the Genge branches in England (& therefore presumably elsewhere in the world) originated in Dorset in the 17C. In some parts of the country they are spelt Gange. My mother's side of the family was from Warwickshire and was Worrall (Percy) and Tabor (Florence) and I know hardly anything of them at all. Percy was killed on the railway in about 1946/7, and Grandmother was born in Leamington Spa. They lived in Woodford Halse, nr Rugby. Is there anyone out there who can start me off with some information? Jan Kennedy jank@sceftesbr-loumaidlea.freeserve.co.uk
