Hi Listers: I am looking for anyone researching any of my following ancestors: Isaac DAVIS (sometimes shown as DAVIES) He was a son of Rachel DAVIS who died in 1830 in Biddestone, Wiltshire Isaac--b. 1797 Biddestone, Wiltshire d. 1860 Brooklyn, New York USA Occupations: Labourer, maltster/brewer, operator of ferry between Bath and Twerton over the River Avon, and druggist. Am wondering if he was involved with The Davis Bear Brewery in Bath abt. 1840, and if there is a connection with the C. H. DAVIES drugstore in Twerton. Isaac married Hannah BOULTER in 1822 in Biddestone Hannah--b. approx. 1804 in either Pewsham, Wiltshire or Andover, Hampshire Hannah--d. 1885 Manitou, Colorado USA Isaac and Hannah moved to Bath after their marriage. They had as many as 12 children. Of them: 1. Mary Ann DAVIS--b. 1823 d. 1850 - drown in the River Avon, never married 2. Matilda DAVIS--b. 1825 d. 1825 3. Caroline DAVIS--b. 1826 d. 1880's married: Daniel CLISSOLD 4. Matthew DAVIS--b. 1828 d. 1894 married: Eliz. HEMBROUGH & M. LEAVES 5. Hannah Maria DAVIS-b.1830 d. 1914 married: John William JOHNSON 6. Matilta DAVIS-b. 1831 d. 1891 married Charles CROSS 7. Mark DAVIS-b. 1832 d. 1914 married: Harriet STEVENS & Maria ? 8. Isaac DAVIS-b. 1836 d. 1891 married: Sarah PEASE (dau. of John/Maria PEASE) 9. William Elijah DAVIS-b. 1838 never married date of death unknown, but after 1870 10., 11., 12., George, Thomas, and possibly Robert DAVIS--all died very young Isaac and Hannah left with 4 of their children (Matthew, Hannah, Matilda, and Isaac) in 1860 for the USA. Caroline CLISSOLD stayed in Bath, as did Willliam Elijah. Mark DAVIS left Bath in approx. 1885 for Carisbrook Austrailia. Might SKS Oz lister tell me where that is? Also, I've seen a lister with a GLS web page of immigrants to Oz, is there a similar thing for people coming from Somerset to Oz? Sorry to be so long, it's just Davis/Davies is such a common name that I thought I'd better go into some specifics. Would love to hear from and share info with anyone researching any of these people!
