Hi Jean Many thanks, I had some of this info, as I have been looking at sites on the net. Trouble is it is really the 1841 and 1851 one I need to see who his parents were and what other Benokes were around in Ilfracombe. Have a good weekend. Hi Kevin, I have found your man in 1861 and in 1901. Not a lot of help for you as in 1861 he is living in Winscombe with his grandparents. He is 10 yrs old and they are Giles 1797 and Sidonia 1791 Williams. Giles was formerly a shoe maker and both born Wedmore SOM. In 1871 there is a William Benoke same age born Ilfracombe who is a lodger in a household in Stafford his occupation is a painter. In 1901 he is a widr and boarder also a House Painter in a household in Penarth, GLA. On various census returns there are these Benokes all born Ilfracombe in the same time scale. John Benoke 1849, Lawrence Henry 1853, Richard G.A 1855, William 1859. Colleagues Further to my recent message about next Sunday's event, I have been asked to clarify two points :- 1. the correct title of this event is the "Oxfordshire & Bucks Family History Fair". 2. the event is not organised by this society - we will merely be present as stallholders. The event's organisers are :- http://members.aol.com/aquarterma/familyhistoryfairs.html I'm sorry for any misunderstanding. G'day everyone, While going through some old notes, I came across this Sussex stray in Quebec. I know that Sussex is not part of Wessex, but I'm sure this list will have some Sussex members who could repost it on a more appropriate list. Parish Register of l'Acadie, St Jean, Quebec (available through the LDS libraries). John, son of James Turner & late Jane Standay, born 21st September 1817 at Hampton, Sussex. This information was recorded in the baptism register of l'Acadie as he became a catholic shortly before his marriage to a Quebecois girl. The marriage took place on the 17th July 1838. Hello I am new to the list and was wondering if anyone has access to the 1851 census. I'm am trying to trace a John GIBBS who was married to a Mary TAYLOR I am not sure when they married although I have found a marriage for the said names on the 31/12/1812, or really where they lived, except they had at least one son named Thomas who was born in barrington somerset 26/06/1824 and then he was christened in Patermoster Row Wesleyan methodist registry London. I have Thomas in the 1851 he is now married to Ann MASON and has three children. If any one can help I would be really grateful. Even better would be a record in the 1841. Not asking for much I know!!!!!!!!!1 Thanks for listening Lynne
Hi Listers I understand that Isaac HALE and Grace [WHITE], living in the Frampton Cotterell area, had two sons, Mark c 1755, and Isaac c 1757. Isaac married Patience CHARLTON and was a hatter. I believe that Mark also married and had children, but can find nothing about him. A Mark HALES married Hester EMBLIN in 1777 in Westbury on Trym, but I can find no baptisms for this couple. Mark lived only until 1784. Is there anyone with parish records for Westbury who would be kind enough to see if there are any HALE or HALES children, please? Kind regards Joy who is also seeking BOWYER, MANCHESTER and HINAM in SOM/GLS.

Hi Listers Temperance HALE, my 3GGM, marrIed hatter, William BOWYER, in 1800 in Frampton Cotterell, GLS, and their six children were born there. He died young. I think this may have been because of his trade. I can't find a death or burial date for Temperance. I wonder if she may have remarried and therefore these details would be in her new married name. Her daughter, also Temperance BOWYER, m William MANCHESTER in Clifton, GLS, and this is the only reference I can find to a Temperance BOWYER. Can anyone suggest a way in which I might find Temperance's death date, please? Kind regards Joy
