The National Archives advised last Friday that FriendsReunited had bought the contract for the 1901 census service from QinetiQ The Message from TNA was as follows: "This is to advise you that QinetiQ (operators of our popular 1901 census service) have sold the contract this afternoon to FriendsReunited. We were not party to the negotiations but our approval was necessary. We sought and obtained assurances about the standard of customer service FriendsReunited will offer and believe that it is a positive development for 1901 customers. Customers will not notice any difference in the way the service operates." A press release will be issued by the two parties on Monday Linda & Tony

I don't have access to any Spetisbury data, but as On-Line Parish Clerk for the adjacent parish of Tarrant Crawford I took a look at the Bishop's Transcripts (transcribed by Christine Crawford and housed on my Tarrant Crawford web pages, see http://www.jimella.nildram.co.uk/tcrawfrd.htm). I didn't find the marriage you asked for, but you may be interested in this one: 26 July 1778 (Antiock) Nathaniel Chafey married Sarah Seborough The "Antiock" indicates the neighbouring village of Tarrant Antiock (or Antioch), now called Tarrant Rawston. There are no baptism or burials recorded for Chaffey or Chafey, and only the one marriage. Saw this and thought a little humour can brighten up ANYONES day! Linda and Tony MR. COBB WEDS MISS CORN Miss Margaret Corn was married to Mr. Stanley Cobb recently at El Paso, Texas at the home of the bride's parents. The marriage license clerk at the courthouse refused to issue the license, thinking it was a joke. When he convinced the clerk that it was on the level, Cobb shelled out for the license. * * * Found a humorous sign or entry in census, parish, church, etc. records? Julia, Just to let you know that I can't find their marriage on the Dorset Parish Records CD (Phillimores). Below is a list of parishes checked, and dates. Most records go up to 1812, but some (such as Poorton) only seem to cover up to 1747, so your couple may have been married in one of those parishes, also I suspect that non-conformist churches may not be covered by Phillimores records. The other thing could be that Dorset borders with several counties (e.g. Devon, Somerset, Wilts), so they may have married in a neighbouring county that was actually just the next village. I think the borders also changed at various times too. For any Yorkskshire researchers but not for main discussion on the list please but for general information. Linda and Tony (List Admin) Subject: CARN Ticket The East Riding of Yorkshire Archive Service will be joining the County Archives Research Network (CARN) readers ticket scheme from the start of September. Visitors will need to obtain a reader's ticket by providing proof of identity, which must include their name, current address and signature. We will also be issuing day tickets, for those unable to provide such information. We have decided to introduce the system now to provide increased security, and in preparation of our move to a new building in 2006. I would be grateful if you could draw this to the attention of anyone intending on visiting the office. Further information on the scheme, and on the required proofs of ID can be found by visiting our website www.eastriding.gov.uk Many thanks Lizzy Baker Archivist East Riding of Yorkshire Archive Service
Hi All, I have just borrowed the Woodford film No 1279338 and have transcribed the following names: Alexander, Allsopp, Bishop, Blewden, Blewdon, Blowden, Carter, Dear, Deare, Dyke, Harris, Hayter, Machlen, North, Pipparell, Smart, Sopp, Stride, and Waters. I haven't recorded them all because I'm only interested in the names connected to the NORTH's, but still managed to record 10 pages. If anyone's interested, please let me know. Cheers Karenn
